Encoding packets, or some sort of alternative [closed]
« on: August 13, 2008, 08:00:01 pm »
I need a way to encode the game packets of my client so that it bypasses a filter that extremely limits packets sent by games.  It severely lags anything I try to do, and I'm getting really pissed off.

It is not:
1.  Lag from the client
2.  My connection (With no one else on, this is a T3 connection)
3.  Something wrong with my client

Unless you can think of a more creative way to get past it, I might be stuck here.

The problem is, more than likely, your packets are being discriminated against based on port sent/recieved and not by their contents. That can be difficult to change.

Would there be any way to test it, and possibly change the ports that it goes on?

-EDIT-

After discussing this with Rolan, the only real solution for me would be to get a phone modem.

I think it would just be too much work to set something up, though it's very possible to spoof the firewall. Your best bet will be to find another connection to the internet.

SSH tunneling, maybe? That's how I got past my school's filters for a while. Maybe set up a VPN somewhere that you can log in to if SSH is too much trouble.

Oh wait, are you trying to play RO from your dorm room or something? You could always find a hotspot nearby to play from.
Just hope that nobody gets IP banned there.

I'm probably going with phone modem for when I play games.  And I really hope the GMs would at least think that I wouldn't bot or do something stupid.  >>;
