I'm back but whats with all this lag?

So i just came back again from my vacation from RO. New site, the GMs have a to do list shown on the forum, and i went to go get a refresher course in kiteing and mobing in payon dungeon to help my friend level her homunculus. But i've noticed something. The lag (or rather the responce time between me and the server) has gone up a ton since back when i played before. I do see that there are more people on during down time but it still isnt as many as there was during the old WoEs and i didnt lag when we WoEd. (oh the memories.)

so i gotta wonder, whats up with that? its realy bad. its not just that i cant kite anymore. i can see and feel the lag just from moving around without any mobs on me.


edit: and as if to accentuate that, the server up and completely crashes. couldnt even get on the site or forum.

It's been like this ever since the website upgraded. Glad to know I wasn't the only one who couldn't log on just a few minutes ago

ASLDKFJASKDFHAKSHF!!! keeps happening. my friend says she doesnt have lag issues. shes not on right now to test the disconnects. so what did the GMs do that causes all this lag?


edit : just noticed something. The server status on the website is a load of crap =<
cant log in and it says the servers are online.

I know, but I figured I wanted to wait for a bit until I knew more details. All I know right now is that the external IPs of the servers don't work, i.e. can't ping or remote connect. I can, however, ping them when I log into the webserver, through the local network, which means that the servers are in fact online, but the connection to the internet is for some reason ... down. Someone posted on twitter that iWeb is doing maintenance on their servers, but that should have happened like 5-6 hours ago. I don't know, I woke up just recently and was told the servers are down. @_@

Well that actually makes sense. But I wonder what's going on with the servers internet. How strange. So does anyone know how long it will take to get back up?

Right. Well, it doesn't happen too often that the server is still running and accessible on the local network, but not on the internet. I don't know if it's because of the firewall, but that might be the reason for it, as the same thing happened to the webserver. You could access it from the test server, but you couldn't go to the website.

Right. Well, it doesn't happen too often that the server is still running and accessible on the local network, but not on the internet. Fidelis is right. iWeb did a maintenance earlier today which was supposed to take 30 minutes, but they appearently messed something up with the firewall in the process, making half of our servers unreachable.

As luck would have it, I had family obligations and hadn't been around to bitch at iWeb. ~_~;

I just got home and instantly made a ticket with them, so it should be fixed soon.

The thing about the online thing; A problem like this should technically not happen. As it still accesses the server on the proper ports and all, it will say it's offline even when eathena isn't running, say for a maintenance or something. Thus the online status thing will be accurace about 99% of the time.

No, I think that would be the firewall that hinders the performance of the network it is attached to.  I don't know if it's logging feature is eating too much resources or what, but it's sucking basically.

.... Also, we will be extending the x2 exp bonus until end of april, seeing as the server has been down for about 20 hours today.

Lastly, the whole team is very happy about the voting performance ! Seeing us soar towards the top so quickly in all the voting sites has made us decide to extend all bonuses ( except for the double exp bonus ) for another month - the shop discounts, voting bonus and amazon bonuses will all last until June 1st.
