Renaming files makes Anthem crash(?) N> Xfire help
« on: December 13, 2009, 12:57:15 pm »
Soooo, yeah, I have no idea whether or not this is going to make sense, but I'll try anyway.

I'm trying to rename my Anthem.exe file so I can get Anthem to function properly with Xfire (so it registers play time)
now, when I rename the file, the game closes upon login.

I've heard it has something to do with vshield, but iunno, that's only to stop botters, right?
I mean, how would changing a file name affect the login like that?

Anhoo, (inb4who_needs_xfire?) a hint to how to getting this to work would be nice, and if I just can't, there's
also just living with it.
Thanks in advance.

Well, what I've tried to do so far, Xfire registers play time by looking how long a certain file is active.
This means I have to rename my client (Anthem.exe) to Ragexe.exe and the Patcher to Ragnarok.exe.
When I do this, Xfire registers the game as installed.

This also means the patcher won't autorun the game anymore, so I boot it manually, no problem there.
Thing is, after renaming Anthem.exe, the game will go and shut down on me when I try to log in.

It used to work pretty well in the Anima and early Anthem days I remember.

Solution number one:

Use a dummy program simultaneously with Anthem. (Register the dummy program with Xfire as Ragnarok Online)

I have no idea what you're talking about ._______.;
But generally, yes, renaming files can make stuff crash, since stuff refers back to other stuff using file names and general other things that I only understand the gist of.

8D at least I helped bump this.

Anyway, thanks for trying, Roon. :3

there's no way to direct xfire to the program without changing any file names? Through a search or a browse function? :O

Xfire only recognises Ragnarok Online as a game installed on the PC by locating
these files in the same folder:  Ragexe.exe and Ragnarok

I already have to manually search for the folder in order for Xfire to acknowledge Anthem as Ragnarok Online.
It gives an error message when it can't find either file. (Error: File ''Ragexe/Ragnarok.exe'' not present)

Other than changing the files, I have no clue how to make this work.
Unless I make a second folder, dummy a program in it, name it said files, and run it along with Anthem. @_@

a second folder might mess you up :( I dunno man, you'll have to wait for a response from someone who knows what they're talking about 8D

Well, what I was thinking was, use 2 low ram programs I don't use for anything anyway, put them in a separate folder, name one
Ragnarok.exe and the other Ragexe.exe, and keep Ragexe running while I play anthem.
Now that I think of it, I could use something like Coretemp to do the job.

I've done it, and it's working. =)

Hopefully Coretemp will still boot automatically now when I start windows. :3

Anyway, going to leave this topic open in case someone knows how to get this done the proper way,
and not with using a dummy program. =P
