I bought an assassins dagger +4 off of a merchant in prontera...and I happened to not have it equipped when I went into one of the shops to sell it and it valued for 10 zeny...  Now, if I just really got ripped off and those daggers are just that cheap, I will take that as my fault for being inexperienced.  However, I am concerned that it may be a hacked item or something random like that?  I guess the question is--is there anyway for me to find out if the dagger is hacked or should I contact a gm?  Or am I just new and don't really have a clue?

Selling to an NPC doesn't always give you what the item is worth.
Usually, an item is worth much more to sell to another person than it is to sell to an NPC.  Most equips do sell for low.  The reason for this is so no additional zeny is being added onto the market.
So, most likely, didn't get ripped off (dunno what you actually did pay).

No problems, don't worry.
Pay attention to equips and cards mostly.  They're usually what sell for less going to an NPC than to another player.  There are also SQI ingredients and a while crap load of other things...buuuuut, you can learn about those later. xD
Just don't be like me.  When I started 5 years ago, I was NPCing stuff like cards and gears...can't remember the cards, but bet I had a mini MVP in there from an OCA..

normally all npc bought items have around 50% loss

as for example, stilletto you can buy from npc for 19.5k and sell it for 9.75k to the same npc (w/o merch overprice/discount)

ps: lol, DBS mjol only worth 12z on npc

I didn't know better..
I was spending all my ads on the random pack thingies (the OCA and OVB stuff) and selling whatever was in them. xD
