RO on Linux
« on: August 17, 2009, 08:16:16 pm »
Anyone had any luck getting it to work?
Running Ubuntu 9.04, trying to run RO under wine, but alas, this is as far as I get:

Spoiler for Hidden:

After the V-Shield thing goes down, the RO window never appears. :(

I don't do much gaemen any more, aside from CS:S(which works under wine np), so I'd rather not have to boot into Win7 if I don't have to. ~_~

I don't quite know what you mean...
I have my hdd partitioned 3 ways already:
Ubuntu 9.04
Windows 7
[Empty, 2gigs]

RO is installed on the Windows partition, and I'm attempting to run it under Wine from the Linux partition.

The best suggestion would be to run the Windows OS.  Even mac users have to use a program that simulates windows to be able to run RO (or something like that).

Windows 7 works well with Anthem now. :)

Never had a problem running in Win7. :)

And I believe you're refering to virtual machines for OSX.
I can set one up and run it, if it comes to that... but RO doesn't seem like all that complex of a game, that it shouldn't be able to run fine in Linux.
A good number of apps/games run fine in Linux w/ Wine, as in, just double click and it starts np;
RO is just one of those odd programs, that for whatever reason require some effort to get them to work.

Just looking to see if anyone has already figured out how to get it running.

Most linux problems with RO come from display issues.  RO is fairly old no matter how you look at it, and for some reason is a pain to run on Linux when I can run other games fine.

I used to run RO with Cedega on Fedora 8 but i'm pretty sure it works with Ubuntu too.
Either buy cedega or good luck with running RO on wine

I used to run RO on Ubuntu, about a year+ ago.  But I got a Vista laptop, and now I run it over there.
I can't even get Vshield to show up on Ubuntu.  I just get an error message any more, so I've given up.

Forgot about Vshield. So yeah, even with cedega you won't run AnthemRO

Thought I'd post this here. This past summer I was able to run the iRO client using Wine on openSUSE with no problem -- well, it required the use of the virtual desktop and OSS sound, but apart from that it ran fine. But I can't get AnthemRO to even come close to working. (I'm using Ubuntu right now, but the problems here are too significant to be due to whatever small version difference there may be.) The patcher first says it needs MFC42.DLL, which I found online and put in its proper place (is it system or system32? Either way, one of them is right, I put it in both to be safe). Then I got this error:
Spoiler for Hidden:
Code: [Select]
$ wine '/home/chris/.wine/drive_c/Games/Gravity/AnthemRO/AnthemPatch.exe'
wine: Call from 0x402052 to unimplemented function MFC42.DLL.6478, aborting

Then when I try to run the client itself, I get the VShield splash or whatever, then an error (in a dialogue box, not in the terminal): "No ClientInfo File !!" then after clicking OK, another: "Load MapInfoTable Failed!" After clicking OK again, the program becomes unresponsive and Wine prompts for terminate/wait.

No information is returned to the terminal at this point, and I'm not sure how to set the debugging environment variable thing mentioned on the man page.

Maybe I should post this to the Wine AppDB page for kRO instead? Though this is a modified client, so... I'm not sure.

Did you check you had the client info file on RO folder? I only got that error when it wasn't there for whathever reason.

Where would I get that? I found some things on Google but I'm not sure if they're what I need.

Client file is the Anthem file, just download anthem client and install it.

I downloaded the full program and installed it already... There's the AnthemClient file, Anthem.exe, AnthemExe.exe, Sakexe.exe, sakray.exe, sakup.exe... Even a Anthem_Win7.exe. That's for compatibility, I assume?

Anyway, it looks like I have everything...

You have any file named DATA? From the times I had problems it was with that file, specifically. If I'm not wrong thats the file with client info, if you change just that file it won't log to anthem but another server. (Thats what I was doing) and if you have none, give clientinfo error

But if you do have that file, then its probably problem with running it on linux? I hate windows myself, but I have way too many games to try playing on linux, some of them being almost impossible, so I don't bother trying to install there :<
