Homonculus problems

well i have a vanilmirth and im currently training in payon dungeon. i have him set to aggressive so that he attacks (obviously).
for some reason he will just randomly stop attacking and just sit there. sometimes he will even run off the screen and do so. why is this?

Am i just crazy or have i seen homculii or pets or something of the sort picking up items after it killed it?
