Question about hax
« on: April 08, 2009, 04:58:43 pm »
what happen if we suspect someone using hax (eg-changing player sprite to large size, maya purple hax)

do we need to have proof that the player is using it for them to be punished or is it GM job to find out once they get ticket about it?

Well good luck getting any proof of that sort of thing, but I'd imagine if you do have some pretty solid evidence you could send in a ticket.  I say pretty solid because it's lame to waste the GMs time on a groundles suspicion, but if you have good reason to believe someone is doing something like that there's no reason you shouldn't send in a ticket and hope for the best.

You probably don't need to be told, but don't post it on the forums, for obvious reasons ::)

Not sure, but you can get the Maya Purple effect with something called a Box of Sunlight.

Changing your char's sprite to Large, that I do not know.

well..last time i heard...those who wants to report need to have concrete proof
that's why i asked here...if everyone knows that GM only entertained concrete proof...everyone can use the hack without worry much

Except for the fact the GMs have implemented all kinds of anti-hacking devices and can detect packet generators.  So if someone does hack they will be caught pretty quickly.

Well, when talking about sprite modifications they always said the only thing you aren't allowed to do is anything that would give you an unfair advantage, such as changing sprite sizes.

u dont know how the stuff work...there is/will always a way to bypass system.
let say someone capable to do that...it means he is allowed to use it because no one can proof it?
because GM will answer the tickets with, "Get proof"
hax pl0x anyone?

What do you mean making the character sprite large...
it's one of the example...making something look big so we can noticed easier

1.  That's kinda the job of the development team.  To patch any vulnerabilities in the hacking detection systems.  And if the GMs can't get proof that the person is hacking what makes you think you will be able to?

2.  I've never seen this 'large sprite' thing.  I personally don't know of any hacks that would work on this server.  The only working thing that I know know of is the packet generators, but those are easily traceable so it results in almost an insta-ban.  So the guy using the packet generator gets 1 fling (like all the arrow dropping we saw recently) then ban.

It's simple.  The GMs have this server very secure.  Almost 0 bots, no hacking.  The only thing that ever happens to this server is AD frauding.  And there isn't really a way to stop it except banning after the fact.

You don't know if GM can't get proof. Have they ever try?
We don't know that's why I made this thread

2. 'Large sprite' is just an example..duh. There's more like visible damage number in woe...If u never heard of those stuff...It doesnt means it's not exist k. Im not familiar packet editor...but can they do more other than that lame arrow? and can GM actually know someone is using the packet editor?
again...
We don't know that's why I made this thread

It's not simple. You only see what you saw. How come you are so sure when u never heard of it?

Of course the GMs try to get proof.  Why do you think people get banned for illegal activities involving the server? (Such as botting or 'hacks')

Without getting extremely technical it's hard to explain how the GMs would detect a packet generator.
Pretty much there is a certain way you are supposed to communicate with the server.  If things aren't done exactly that way it will flag it for inspection.  Like no one is able to spam 1 billion arrows in 2 seconds.  So the server flags it, the GMs do a little more investigation, and find the person was doing something illegal, then ban them.

Any known hacks have been patched by the GM team.  That doesn't mean new ones won't come out, but if they do the GMs will just patch those too.  That is why I said I haven't heard of any hacks that will work.

Anything you aren't supposed to be doing can be detected by the GMs.  That's why they are there.  The users don't need to go out hacker hunting because the GMs have it well in hand.  Now if you do see someone doing something suspicious you could notify the GMs but they probably already know about it.
When they ask for proof they are probably just trying to weed out false alarms and bogus accusations.

The thing is a friend already send support ticket and GM replied "Go get proof"
It feel so pointless

We're not talking about packet generators here. Things like WPA are easily detectable since they're a 3rd party application running along the actual client, there are numerous ways to detect that. But then again there's thing called "sight hacking" which requires players to edit few lines clientside so that they see hidden people. Also you can modify client to display the damage in WoE there are tons and tons of things you can do to make your playing easier without any actual info sent to the server.

There is no such thing as a secure server, no matter how hard you try to make things secure there is always a way to get around it if you're smart enough. There are few extremely good programs around there to stop bots and packet duplicators but I'm quite sure even tyhey aren't 100% secure.

As for detecting them, it doesn't work they way you say it does. What a packet duplicator like WPA does is that it captures one packet, let's say you pick up a card. Then it sends that packet to the server again, fooling it so that you picked another card and another card etc etc. Everything follows standard server protocols and communication standars, "flagging" some strange packet data doesn't happen if there is no strange packet data. The only way GM's could detect this is through item logs, I mean someone picking up 500 doppel cards in a row is a bit suspicious right?

There is no automattc detection, there are programs which prevent the usage of 3rd party programs such as WPA from running. But there is no actual way to automatically detect packet duping server side.
