Vista and Login Problems
« on: December 15, 2007, 06:14:17 pm »
Whenever I go on this laptop, I usually dread going on RO cause I will never know if my computer will freeze when trying to log on. After I get through the service select and try to type in my account info, my computer freezes and then I gotta shut it down and reboot it back up.

I dunno if it's my RAM (which is 1662 MB) or something else, but I dunno what to do. Also I don't have any other programs opened, besides RO. Should I upgrade the computer or something? ~_~

I wish my old computer was fixed so I could easily get on RO.

Are you using full-screen?
What are the specs of your video card?
Are you running Aero?
Does the computer seem to be running really hard while it is frozen?
When you shut it down do you have to do a hard shutdown (Press the button)?

They say Vista runs absolutely best under 4GB of RAM, but can run without problems on 2GB. You have 1GB on that laptop. But, I run 512MB on this laptop and have plenty for RO on XP plus Firefox and msn. I can't really say for sure it is a RAM problem or not. It could be a video memory problem. The Vista desktop is a serious hog of video resources.

I don't use full-screen. I use 800 x600 sometimes.
I'm not sure what the specs of my video card is.
I don't think I am running Aero.
I suppose so.
And yes.

Well, I turned off all those visual effects so the laptop can perform well, but now it's working and I'm logged on though it will probably not work well sooner or later.

Well I guess that could still be either. If you're really interested in upgrading the laptop I'm sure a computer repair shop would be able to tell you exactly what the issue is.

Dude, no.

If I can do this with 1GB, then I think it's enough.

She has more than I do, so it's not that. This usually occurs from Power supply problems.

Not all laptops are made equal! Haha.

I have the same problem when I had 1gb. I had to update recently to 2.5 gigs and even then my laptop isn't running so well with RO and Vista. Though at least now it's not crashing, blue screening, and freezing like what she had said.
No longer high GMing. Please do not message me about your recovery. Don't give away the keys to your car and you won't have it stolen and have to go to the police to try and get it back.
