How does one sell Accounts/Characters?

I understand that you can transfer characters via spend credit, but how does one go about selling a character or an account in terms of:
- the process of when does zeny/item exchange take place
- passwords/userinfo in terms of accounts
- fraud failsafes
- character's name and the actions of the new character owner after sale (Spend credit for rename and if so can I use the name again?) 

I see people selling all the time, I just don't quite understand the process which is important because I plan on selling one.

Usually it's payment first then you receive the username and password. Take lots and lots of screenshots of the whole process for safeguard against said frauds. Usually the account seller would wait until you can actually log on the account and bid their adieu, but change the password as soon as possible ^_____^

I've never tried buying/selling characters through the transfer request though.
