But I'd really like to know if there's a time limit to get ads in for an item recovery that's gone through, or if I have as much time as needed to get the zeny up to buy them?

From personal experience, a GM allowed me a grace period. Actually, the GM allowed me to pay half the fee for half the gears to work up the money to pay for the other half. I'd like to think the the current GM's are just as lenient.
