If you want something cheap, easy to get +10 and lower in weight, just make +10 Hood[1], its not easy reach +10, but its easy get +7 / +8, also you get Hoods[1] from niff all time, x_O.

there is no difference in those to items in their defense both are pretty much the same.

but in weighted ans cost they differ

hood weigh 20 while muffler 40  and like the others had posted

its more cheaper to have +7 muf than + 8 hood.

 

There is a difference in the DEF value, as it was pointed in the very beginning. Each upgrade gives you roughly +0.67 DEF NOT +1 DEF
So getting a armor to +7 will give you 4.67 DEF
While +8 will give you 5.33 DEF

Hood gives you +1 DEF. Now add the upgraded DEF, so your +8 Hood will give you a total of 6.33 DEF.
Muffler gives you +2 DEF. Add the upgrade bonus and you'll get a total of, 6.67 DEF.

So +7 Muffler is slightly better then a +8 Hood. The difference is really small but it's still there. And those are the real DEF values, the game uses those to count the damage you receive. The status window counts each upgrade as +1 DEF, but the status window is wrong.

Because if there's no actual difference between the two except the price and weight then most people would go for +8 Hood rather then a +7 Muffler since it's lighter and usually cheaper.

I made 2 +8 Hoods[1] for about 400k . I really have nothing to say as to why people use +7 Muffler[1] and overupgrade mufflers to +7 when hoods  are cheaper , can be used by novices and have almost the same def. getting a +9/10 Muffler is much better than a hood though But for most people who want +7 just make a hood it makes more sense

Alas most people in the back of their minds are like "WHAT?!" hoods look like crap in the equips screen and i wouldn't want to be caught wearing one , even though they are the better choice in terms of price and versatility( Novice xDDD). But in all seriousness if some one was going for the "every def counts" kinda gears they would not go with +7. and they prolly wouldnt even use a muffler ( heavenly maiden robe) so that point is moot right there.

No. if it takes the same number of garments to reach +7 ( lets say 4 ) Elu =10k each
muffler[1]
190k x 4 = k + the cost of elu ( which lets say the max number of elu used is 7 per muffler , so each one uses up 7 elu) =280k
Thats about 1,040,000 Zenny make 1 +7 Muffler

While a hood is
Hood[1]
 2k x 4 = 8 k + cost of elu ( lets use the same number of elu and garments as above ) 280k
Thats about 288k to make 1 +7 hood.

if 1 def is that important go ahead and make a +8 Hood ,( which costs about as much as a +7 Muffler anyway) but most people who do that would rather have a +8 muffler/ heavenly maiden robe anyway .
