Is there a problem with the automated unslotter?

I want to unslot an armor of mine, but I'm hesitating to do so since lately I've seen several reports of people that got banned for trying to unslot their items.
Is this real or I can just go and unslot my armor and have no worries?

Most, if not all, of those cases involved people not following the unslotting instructions properly (ie - staying logged in, for example). If you read and follow all the instructions, you shouldn't have any problems.
