Customising the client
« on: July 15, 2008, 11:01:14 am »
So I send in a support ticket a while back and no response has come so far, so I decided to ask the forums the same question as I asked the GM's.
Before anybody starts flaming me and saying it's allowed, I want to make sure because I don't feel like getting smacked in the face by a b&hammer.

Dear GM's,

I know custom skins and aura's are allowed in the server. I was just wondering if you're allowed to customize any other part of your RO client.

Lets say for example customize the text that appears when casting a soullink or asura strike. This would also include the images for the buffs and magical skills (such as Lord of Vermillion)

If this is allowed. Am I allowed to share these custom images with other players?

Sharing these custom images would include me setting up a shop in artist corner where you can order a customization to your client in return for a price in either zenny or ads.

o.O

I'd buy from you.

Is it just grafix or can you change the game's music as well?

From my understanding:

Hex-editing and modifying RO itself = b7

creating a data folder with that crap = fine

I could be wrong though.

And I'd also pass off anything you make by Yuber and Talis to verify you're not doing anything wrong.
<@Pandora> I have 2 sisters.
<@Pandora> Both younger than me.

<@Pandora> I love my sisters

Correct to an extent. If you are just modifying cosmetic changes, it's fine. But if you're modifying things which give you an advantage over other players, not fine.

I'm just talking about the graphic images in the data folder.
I'll give a specific example:

We all know this image for endure:

I can swap this with some other image like this:

(I just made that in paint in like 10 seconds as an example)

As far as I know, I'd just be changing the graphic that appears when using a skill. Not actually giving me an advantage over other players, only a less bland/standard appearance.
I guess it's the next level of graphic customization.
(IMO a customized client could be, a different skin, a custom aura, custom buff images, custom words appearing when soullinking/asura striking, custom wiz AoE spells)

I guess that I can get ready to start opening an art shop for this then ^^
Since it is just a "cosmetic change"

http://wasp.net.au/~raz/Download.php?start_from=0&ucat=&archive=&subaction=&id=&

they have a link to download to your data file which when u open it it gives a selection of aura's to change to then u click
install and your set but then what??? i tried to log on and see any changes and nothing, didnt know what i did wrong i placed
it in texture file-effect file to see if it works that way and nothing.

how did you get a aura to work on your file?i just want one simple aura to use besides that blue shinny max lvl aura that blinds me

I tried using an aura installer. It didn't work. I just ended up doing it manually. It's a lot easier in the end.
I'm just waiting to get a 100% clearance on this before I make a thread.
I'll be making a guide to install my customs.
If you can be patient until then I will gladly help you if you still have problems.

But now it is time for me to sleep... haven't had a proper sleep in a couple of days :<

Ok, I will be making a thread tomorrow.
Complete with guide and everything

All these changes are aesthetic client side changes, so there shouldn't be any illegal business going on.
If there is a problem with what I'm doing can I be warned in advance instead of an insta-b&hammer?

Send me a PM with what you're going to post and I'll review it before hand and tell you what can and cannot be in it.

I sent the PM 2 days ago (I know 2 days is nothing), but I was just wondering if you didn't miss it or accidentally deleted it or something...
I saved a copy of it in my outbox so I can easily resend it.
