Computer issues with RO
« on: April 05, 2008, 02:16:10 pm »
well i know it has to do with RO. Cause i used this computer a while ago before i installed anthemRO and
there was no problem.

The problem is 2 things. The Keyboard and the constant restarting of the computer every time
i'm on RO.

after a while ago when i started playing RO on the desktop, the keyboard was acting up.
It started not working and such. I found out the reason why it wasn't working.
It had something to do with the device. So i checked the Device Management,
it said code 19. I followed its advice and uninstalled it. It was concerning to me that
i have to constantly uninstall and reinstall to get the keyboard to work. It cant be the
keyboard's problem cause it was working fine before i installed RO.

The constant Restarting. It happened a lot today, i have the feeling this problem is getting worser and
worser. After a few minutes of playing the computer suddenly reseted it self.
I Even waited a while and then played, but it still happens.

any idea what this thing is and how to fix it?

First off, it might not have to do with RO and could just coincide with something else that you did, if not. also what happens when the comp restarts? blue screen of death? just black screen then startup screen? details man details

It sounds like your power supply is dying. As for the keyboard problem, it's a known problem. If you search the forums, there's a fix on there somewhere concerning regedit.
No longer high GMing. Please do not message me about your recovery. Don't give away the keys to your car and you won't have it stolen and have to go to the police to try and get it back.

That really sounds to me like overheating hardware. Unless you're seeing the BSOD(Blue Screen Of Death) when the computer restarts itself, it's probably a temperature problem. Here are some questions:

Do you have a non-performance-grade computer? (like a laptop or a basic desktop)
Is AnthemRO the only graphically-intensive game you play on that computer?
If you pop off the side of your computer case do you see more than 3 fans?

If you can say yes to at least two of those three questions (especially the second) then you've probably got overheating issues. These issues are easy to fix by  getting a better cpu fan/heatsink which any technician should be able to install. If you could say no to all of those questions then it does seem like it could be faulty hardware like GM Denia mentioned. Either way, the computer restarting itself is a sign of serious issues. I strongly recommend getting the computer checked out.

Well that's not good news. It is almost definitely a hardware problem. If it was software Widows would spit the BSOD or anther error. I'm not a professional technician (yet, working on my A+ atm) but I would say that laptop can't take the hardware intensity of RO. It sounds to me like you have the graphic power to run the game, but your laptop overheats shortly after you start playing. I could be wrong, but only a professional technician would be able to help you with that one, sorry.

Ah, I see. Well that even furthers my suspicions of it being an overheating problem. And in a desktop that is much easier to fix. Ragnarok is heavy on the cpu and when the cpu temp raises above a certain point the computer automatically shuts down to protect itself. In a desktop there are several things you can do to bring that core temp down.

1) Get a "can of air" and clean all of the dust out of there. Make sure the computer is unplugged and you don't touch any of the parts with your hands (or the can). Surprisingly, this can make a huge impact on how well the computer runs depending on how much dust was in there.

2) Get some cheap plastic zip-ties and try to clean-up all of the wires. You want there to be plenty of airflow room in the case. In a lot of cases the wires are going everywhere in every direction, creating a net keeping the hot air in there. You want to be very gentle with the wires and where they connect. This will also have a large impact on your performance depending on how bad the wires were.

3) Have a technician look at installing another case-fan or even a new cpu fan and heatsink. This will dramatically increase your performance and drop that temperature, but may cost a little bit.

You are probably suffering from the same issue. Try the methods I listed above.
