Upgraded Kaho Retaining Upgrade?

Quick question, if i want to change my +7 Normal Kaho to a custom sprite, will i keep the +7? Like +7 Poopoo hat Kaho?

From a quick search, it seems like no, but i recall people doing this in AnimeRO.
