Is it normal for red and black text messages to pop up at the top of the screen like WoE announcements or gm messages?

I don't think they were from a gm or anything either. The names of the people typing were of normal players and the what they wrote was really random.

Yeah it's normal. They are what we like to call "being an hero" they bascially talked to some villagers near a opening to drop down into a pond as some rite to manhood. You talk to one particular NPC and jump down and then you see that.....As you die. lol
