Missing elements for us casual players
« on: April 02, 2013, 11:46:56 am »
Honestly I have been here since Anima which is a long long time ago... Back then I wasn't as busy as before so I basically can just keep playing for long hours, no problem for me... I think for many of the players who have left, it is the same thing for them... Our life just simply got busier as we grow up and less free time to play RO and due to that, free time is now considered more precious and so we start considering seriously how we should really spend this free time.

Well issue here is this server have a very basic principle thats most vet players here hold so dear that is technically killing the server cause casual players won't stay... RO is getting older, meaning player base is also getting older... RO players having lesser and lesser free time in their life so more and more players are turning to casual players instead. Not saying there are no hardcore grinder and stuff. But the issue is this server believe on... If you wanna get gears and stuff, work for it. I know it isn't fair that newer players now have advantage of getting gears early but... Casual players are casual not because we are not loyal to game/server... But rather, we simply have too much on our hand in our real life... This principle is work for your gears is just simply gonna kill the server because we ain't gonna stay... When we play, we wanna relax and get some positive feeling from the game at the end our 1 - 2 hour at least 60% of the time... When I say get good feeling, I don't mean by, "today I just made my first SQI"... Which is not possible, if playing this game makes me feel like I going to work for the second time today rather than playing game. My life is simply full of work already... If you want me to work for another 1-2 hours, to be honest, I ain't gonna do it since it isn't a must do... I don't mind investing, if it can help take my mind away from the word, "work".

Thats all I gotta say :) I am just speaking up from my perspective as a casual player. :) Shoot me down for all I care... Not like this forum community is friendly to begin with. Sorry for the long wall of text :(

If you have a suggestion of how to benefit those who play a few hours a week verses those who put in a few hours+ a day then I would like to hear it. If someone spends 5 hours farming something logically they're going to be richer/more geared than the ones who spend a lot less time. I will gladly push for things that help the casual players but if you want everything to keep moving towards balance then it has to not be overly beneficial to the ones that put the time in. (if that's what I correctly deduced from your post)

I am thinking on what I can suggest... But just posting first cause I have been wanting to post this but it always slip my mind when I got home... I am thinking along the line of rental items... Like create an event that gives items that last for maybe say a month or 2 that really boost the players ability to fight and level and stuff so that they don't have to be the rich to go MVPing with others to make a diff when MVPing or something. Of course this would also help newbie players who just join in... Not like vets can abuse since this item shouldn't be as good as those SQIs... But should be near the level of stuff like DBSS and stuff. Since it is temporary item, I don't think the vets can say unfair... Since these items can't be sold... This suggestion of course doesn't really benefits most of us, since most of the players left are the rich, hardcore grinders of the past or maybe event the present...

Maybe have more mini games like the volleyball mini game :) I think it will be fun :) Like I said, we aren't looking for grinding to our gears... One of the reason is very simple... Why bother 1 hour a day for 1 year? Prices just keep going up and our earnings remains the same, we will most probably just think why bother farming so hard... This is a game... Not work... I think more round the clock GM events would be cool :) normally the events are held during the time when I cannot make it...

to be honest my brother said the same thing and to this day i use that way of thinking.  I mean i work hard for the stuff i get i have a +10 mace with a baphoment card, started from scratch and now working on putting 2 dopples and a turtle, but that brings up my next issue.  I see the problem with somethings is that the cards unbelievable to get really .1% yet not to mention some are either ridiculously hard to kill or some are just plain useless.  What im saying i believe is what you might be saying, is at least make the easy monster's cards less useful and the harder better.  Also make the easy ones easier to get and the harder ones a bit harder.  I'm not going to be able to kill a dopple without a party but really only .1% chance and not only that but i must either share the card or give it to one from the party, but at least a bit easier like even 1% is better.

P.S. keep in mind i have never partied with others to get a dopple or any of those so if im wrong tell me.

Players who spend 30 minutes a day and players who spend 5 hours a day should have a sizable difference in their gear, but I've been saying for the longest time that the difference should be in things that aren't the difference between being able to play and enjoy PvP/WoE. Everyone on this server should have a kaho. With how bad the economy is, literally everyone should have a kaho, new and old players alike. New players might have to work a (very) little bit for their kaho, but it should not be hard to get. The game has always been about aesthetics, so you can drive newer players by making custom kahos significantly (but still not that) harder to get than regular kahos.

As it stands, and as it has stood for the past few years, is that this game does not nearly bring in as many new players as it could've and should've.

It's probably too late by now, anyways.

A focus on the Vanilla section can help with the casual part.

^ It's a low-rate server, so we can't just give everyone the best gear. Improving non-SQI areas would give less geared players more they could compete in, while still being fun for some of those vets with gear out the ass. We can't just completely ignore vets, but things new and old players can actually do together sounds like a step in the right direction to me. Mini games like volleyball are great, but someone would have to come up with the ideas for them.
