Main chat question.
« on: August 16, 2011, 02:12:44 pm »
I'd like to know why giving out free items/leeches on main chat is 'illegal.'
Why should charity be punished? They're doing something to help the new players of the server.

This conversation is where I am coming from:
Spoiler for Hidden:

To me, mainchat is to serve the purpose of helping players, be it answering a question or looking for a party.
Sure there are some social aspects of it too, but shouldn't the main purpose of it.

I did some searching around and the closest I could come to an answer was this post by Fidelis:
Quote
"Does anyone have ___ lying around, I might buy it? PM me." is exactly the same as "B> ___, PM me.", and thus, not allowed. Free stuff or giving away free stuff.... sigh, I don't know, it isn't as severe as the B>/S> stuff I guess, but I still don't want to see main chat spammed by beggars and stuff. If it gets too serious, I might reconsider my opinion on that, but for now, I guess a warning is enough. If it keeps on happening, mute."
I understand this aspect of it, but giving away items is not the same as begging for them.

Fidelis and I actually discussed this yesterday, and OFFERING free leeches and such is fine. However, REQUESTING them is against the rules.

So, someone says "I'm in Niff right now, so if anyone wants a free leech, let me know", is okay.

If someone says, "Can someone please leech my character?", is not okay.

Granted, if this becomes obviously abused, and people attempt to find loopholes, this will most likely change.

>.>; thats... slightly confusing... but ok. understood. Curious if you guys are discussing other changes to the rules and if they'll be updated soon/at some point.

Also on that note... what about 'giving away free leech, require GJ' That'd be more like a trade tho wouldn't it? (yes i kno i'm nit picking this but clearing up grey areas is nice >.> )

BTW... i'm not the sheriff of mainchat D:< (seriously if i warn people its out of concern that they'll be muted and helping them not to be -.- )

Must be free, no strings attached. I guess the best way to look at it is...

No begging/requesting for ANYTHING in main chat. However, you're more than welcome to be nice and offer 100% free service to help out others.

Alright, but why would GJ matter? They're still doing the leech for free. No reason they should have to provide their own GJ.

Is this already official or still under discussion?

Meaning, If someone right now is offering a free 100% leech and such in main chat, would be reportable or not?

asking that specifically because a lot of leechers ask to be provided with GJ/heals while leeching people. And i've seen someone say that exact thing so i thought i'd ask that 'cuz i could see someone trying to use it as a loophole... even tho then it clearly would be trading but yaaaa...

That wasn't directed at you slurpy. I just think that if someone is going to provide a free service like leeching and ONLY asks for GJ in return, GJ that is used to leech them, then I don't see why this would matter in the least and it should not be reportable.

It wouldn't be reportable, as Haine just stated.  They probably should add this to the main chat rules for official clarification.

I think the GMs should either let the PRs have mute power over main chat and/or hire some players with clear knowledge of main chat to monitor it. I say hire, but it'd be more like volunteer work. /heh

Main chat gets out of hand a lot. Sometimes it gets trolled really hard. Sometimes there's a million questions being fired at two decent people who wanna help while people are trolling. :o

Most free leechs are down to people in the area and are 99, and just figure they'd help out, that or just overly nice people who're going about their daily leveling and don't mind sharing, they shouldn't be expecting GJ if they were gonna be doing it anway

Some yes, others no.  Some want to do it JUST for the purpose of being nice and helping people. They ask for grape juice because they're already taking the time to do it, no reason why it should hurt them zeny-wise.
