That guide is reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally old and outdated, I wouldn't recommend looking for help in guides that are almost four years old and based on a completely other server and client patcher architecture. @_@

To me, it sounds more like a problem with your firewall or your router. Check if the firewall settings block the animuspatch.exe. Maybe you're just using an old installation, try redownloading the latest setup if you've got enough bandwidth: http://174.142.186.140/AnimusROFull02_12_2011.exe
