mdef+garment(or armor) resist
« on: August 28, 2009, 08:07:32 pm »
so my question is..since mdef and elemental reductions kind of work independently,(this is vs magic only, not elemental physical attacks)

is there a certain point where it is better to use pure mdef than say, a fire armor+jakk garment?
(since usually everyone has 35mdef from sleips+kaho lets just say elemental armor+garment+35mdef).

or maybe a combination of..ragamuffin+elemental armor vs jakk+elemental

from your testings perhaps, it doesn't really need math or anything ;)

wonder if this should go in the game mechanics section....

Yes.  When the reduction from the added magic defense out weighs the percent modifier reductions.  For example, if you are trying to resist fire and have 20 magic defense.

Equipping a ragamuffin you would get 70% of the damage.  If you use jakk garment you would get (1- .2) *(1-.3) = 56% percent of the damage.

However, if you had 85 mdef before equipping the ragamuffin, you would receive 5% of the damage after equipping a ragamuffin.  If you equipped a jakk garment instead, you would recieve (1-.85)(1-.3) = 10.5% of the damage.

ok thanks. guess I'l just do some math and figure out what times it'l be better

makin sure..elemental armor is counted separate from resist? (i'l just count it last)
