Title: How do i download/install aRO on a ubuntu system?
Post by: ForeverJ on June 13, 2010, 12:59:02 pm
I am running lucid 10.04 on an old compaq.
I have windows 7 but my sound card and graphics card drivers do not work on 7, so i am forced to figure out how to use wine.
I tried downloading aRO useing wine and the first package had an error during installation so i stopped.
Do i need to download in windows 7 then transfer it over to this partition?
I have been battling with this for the past 3 weeks or so, so PLEASE HELP if you can.
Thank you.

okay well I assume you have dual boot into windows 7. If so, its really easy to install Animus. Just boot into Windows, install Animus like you normally would (just remember where you install it to).
Now to run wine, all you have to do is find the file you want to run in wine, right-click it and choose "Open with Wine Windows Program Loader".
if you need a video tutorial I made one here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lb1fBabPw-s)
To patch, browse to the Animus folder and run animuspatcher using wine. Be patient and dont spam it if it doesnt open at first. If it doesnt open, wait like 10 minutes because it seems to take a while to start :(
To run the actual game with wine go to Applications > Configure Wine Click the Graphics tab and check emulate virtual desktop (you can change the resolution but then you might get lag). Hit the Ok button and browse to the Animus folder. Once there find the Setup file and run it. Pick the same resolution as the one you set wine to and check fullscreen mode on. You might also want to turn lightmap mode off because I have heard it gives problems, although I have never encountered them myself. Find Animus.exe, run it using wine and that should be it.
Note: if you ever need to patch again, you will first have to disable emulate virtual desktop mode

I followed all of the steps, I got the client to patch, but when I try running setup.exe, I get an error message:
Program Error: the program Setup.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
This can be caused by a problem in the program or a deficiency in Wine. You may want to check http://appdb.winehq.org for tips about running this application.
If this problem is not present under Windows and has not been reported yet, you can report it at http://bugs.winehq.org.
~If I try to open the Animus.exe itself with wine loader, I'll get the same message and it will keep 'popping' up over and over, and I'll have to close it mulitple times before I can even get the appelet to shut down.
Any suggestions?

It seemed appropriate, but I'll create a new thread then.
