Title: Running on wine info.

I recently installed lucid 10.04 and i want to play ro.

I am downloading the file right now and already have wine installed but have never used it.

Does anyone have any information to help me with the installing/using of Wine for RO?

I would really like the help.

Alright well I'm running 10.04 too so lucky you! (im still fairly new to Ubuntu though  :-\)

So first of all do you have a dual boot into windows because i'm not sure if you can run setup using wine (I boot into windows if I need to install anything using exe's as ubuntu is.. >.>) . You could also install it using another PC onto a USB then transferring the files onto your Ubuntu machine /ok

Now to run wine, all you have to do is find the file you want to run in wine, right-click it and choose "Open with Wine Windows Program Loader". That should start the setup.

To patch, browse to the Animus folder and run animuspatcher using wine. Be patient and dont spam it if it doesnt open at first. If it doesnt open, wait like 10 minutes because it seems to take a while to start  :(

To run the actual game with wine go to Applications > Configure Wine
Click the Graphics tab and check emulate virtual desktop (you can change the resolution but then you might get lag). Hit the Ok button and browse to the Animus folder. Once there find the Setup file and run it. Pick the same resolution as the one you set wine to and check fullscreen mode on. You might also want to turn lightmap mode off because I have heard it gives problems, although I have never encountered them myself.  Find Animus.exe, run it using wine and that should be it.

Note: if you ever need to patch again, you will first have to disable emulate virtual desktop mode

Ok so i tried to download the game thru wine i think and when i tried installing the first package had an error so i stopped.

you say dual boot windows 7 as well? How do i do that?

and i cant find my usb flashdrive right now...

 so if has to come to that ill look for it again.

dual booting is having 2 operating systems on your PC at one time. If you don't have it atm, then you shouldn't bother trying to install windows (I think you would need to install windows over ubuntu and then reinstall ubuntu).
I suggest you just find a USB and use it to transfer the Animus folder into your ubuntu machine /ok
