Title: Playing RO from college?! @_@ HELP!
Post by: tsukaza13 on March 02, 2010, 11:18:18 am
So, we just got a net connection activated for our hostel. I installed and patched RO, but, as I'd suspected, it's unable to connect to the server when I try to log in. I'm able to access the Anthem website, though. Does aRO run through proxies, or is there some other method to make this work? I really don't want to have to take an alternate connection to play RO. :/

Have you tried asking your college's tech support?  They might know how to set it up.

The college isn't going to help me play a game off their bandwidth. =_= It IS set up for our use, but we're not supposed to "misuse" it. They're not going to help, I know that much.

Also, I CAN access the AnthemRO site and ping it and everything. Also, can I check if the aRO ports are actively blocked? If so, how?

@thephi
Seriously, don't post if you're not going to help. ._.

I know perfectly well I'm in college, but that doesn't mean I'm going to have my nose buried in a book 24x7. I want my fun.

Shut the fuck up.
@OP
I think there's a method in which you actually can use a proxy to play Aro, it's pretty difficult though, and I recall it being pretty dangerous.
Try to search it on google and stuff.

Get a laptop.

I am using a laptop. The college provides the net connection.

I have tried Googling it, I couldn't find anything I could use. In most cases where people asked for help, the usual reply was along the lines of "STFU GO STUDY". >.> That, or sites explaining how to run different kinds of bots on iRO.

One of the text files in the RO folder (Version history.txt) mentions "Proxy support added, use IE settings to configure." I still need an IP address through which I can route to Anthem's server to configure it, though. Does such exist?

I've never had problems playing, but the internet is super shitty, and tends to lag a lot.

Meh. I was hoping for an an official response, none seems to be forthcoming. I suppose I'll have to buy a portable modem or something. Suckfest. ._.

Probably port 6900 is blocked.

What's port 6900 exactly? And is there any way I can verify that it's been actively blocked by the admins?

Port 6900 is the port that's used by RO. If it's blocked, you can't connect, simple as that. There's some tools out there to check it I think. Could also check with the network admins.

There's a program so u can avoid the blocking.. i forgot its name ._.

Eh, I highly doubt there's something like that. If it's blocked in the routers, you'd have to know the login information to get in.

There are a lot of programs out there which claim to bypass webfilters and blocking, even for games. I've downloaded a few; will try them out tonight, or maybe tomorrow.

EDIT: Failing, and hard. Proxifier didn't work, and neither did Paperbus. I think I might be doing this wrong. I'll try a VPN next.

Edit2: Omg someone help me T_T

is it a four-year college? if it is that's pretty weird. At my college which is a tech school, so we live at our own homes, we can't "abuse" their network.

Best option would be to either go wifi, or in the best case, go to a cellphone provider,which sell USB ports to access the internet from their services.

Yes, it is. I live in another city, four hours away. So.... :x

I need an obsession to spend my free time on, and this is it. There are worse addictions, and it's not like I'm trying to play in class; just back in my room. And FYI, this college DOES suck. I have to travel two fricking hours if I want to go get a pizza. >.> Primitive shithole of a city ._.
