Title: Blue Screen: dumping physical memory
Post by: valiant1709 on December 16, 2009, 12:09:53 pm
I have a HP ze5478cl laptop with: intel pentium 4 2.9 GHz processor 512 MB ram and 80 GB harddrive
The laptop is working fine, but when i play some game, after about 30 min - 1hr, i got blue screen saying dumping of physical memory and automatically reboot my laptop This only happens when im playing high end game, never happen outside of that. My guess is the ram or the graphic card is too low?
Any suggestion to fix this? Thx in advance

There can be several reasons for a bluescreen, especially if it happens with all your games, not only RO. Your RAM is pretty low for recent games and applications, but if you're running on Windows XP or lower, this should be no problem. If bluescreens only appear when you play, there is a high chance that there is something wrong with your RAM (physically, I mean, at least one of the modules may contain errors/is damaged), with your video card or your video card driver. I suggest you to go through your device manager, and update all of your drivers, especially SOUND and VIDEO CARD drivers.
Another possible reason might be your HDD. Either it's too small (too much free space is used, so there is no more space for the virtual memory), or it's damaged and the system tries to write on one of the damaged sectors. Click on start -> run, type in "cmd" (without the ""), click OK, and type in "chkdsk", it will do a quick check of your current HDD partition, and will say at the end if there are any bytes in damaged areas.
Also useful to find out the reason for the bluescreen is one line in the bluescree where a driver file is mentioned. Example: (http://i48.tinypic.com/1z1d6w7.gif) In this case, it's called "aries.sys". If it happens again, try to catch that name before the computer reboots, then google it to see if it's part of your video card driver or any other driver.

There's a good chance it's your RAM Vali. Have you installed any recently? Sometimes RAM doesn't work with your other hardware and dies... A while ago I was getting BSoD whenever I played games, and it turned out my RAM was faulty. I took the RAM stick out and everything worked fine.
Sometimes it's a cooling problem too. That's quite common I think. I had a lot of trouble with games slowing down after a few minutes and crashing sometimes, and freeze ups and BSoD occasionally. Turned out my computers fan was shot. Download SpeedFan or something to find out your computers Temp when running a game. If it's around 65C°+ or so you've got a problem. What I did was take an ordinary fan, put it next to my computer and opened the side to let it cool it down. Worked great for me. If you don't wanna do that or you feel like wasting a ton of money you could buy a new internal fan also. x3

You can change something in the bios, so it won't automatically restart itself after a bsod, right? I forgot what. :[
