Title: Straighforward question on ip and voting
Post by: DA~Kaitou on December 10, 2009, 12:59:42 am
I'll be moving soon to a different household. Same laptop, new network so my ip will change. Now the kids in that household might get hooked on RO too so as long as I keep them away from voting (since I'll be the one doing it), I'm safe from getting red flagged as fraud, right?

As long as you are the only forum account that is voting from that same IP address, everything should be cool. Try to find a way to restrict the voting link as a "flagged inappropriate" page, so you can have a password for it only you know, and can be the only one to vote. It'd be safer in the long run that way.

Thanks. Sounds like a good idea but it's not my network or computer to mess with so I'll see what I can do.
Also, I won't get in trouble for all of a sudden having a diff ip, will I? xD Just double-checking.

Nope. People move all the time, of course.

It isn't as bad if you have a static IP address, since only one account will then be able to vote. However, DA~Kaitou, looking at your IP, seems you have a dynamic one anyway. Well, yeah, try to keep them from voting, and there's nothing you have to worry about. IN CASE it happens, and you find out that you accidentally voted twice, or a kid voted at the same time as you, send in a ticket, and we'll deal with it, so you won't be punished.

Thanks for the quick reply/s as I will be moving tomorrow. @Fidelis: I'll do that when it happens then. /ok Thanks.
If you happen to swing by again, I've got another question I've always wondered about. ^^; I bring my laptop around to play on other people's wireless networks, do their ip count as mine too? None of them play but if they decide to, would it connect me to them in a way that only one of us should have to vote? Or maybe I'm thinking too much. Thanks anyway. xD

Yes, if you use the same internet, it'll be same IP. S'why my hubby doesn't get to vote. xD But I would say it's okay to vote, until they start playing themselves, if they ever do. Cause my hubby had been playing, and voting, for a few months before we moved in together, so yeah.
