Title: GM Requirements?
Post by: GM Lame on January 03, 2008, 07:53:31 pm
I don't want to be a gm or anything, but I would like to know what gm's need to know to be able to work on AnthemRO.
So, what are the GM requirements?

I heard you can't apply.
They just watch people and then pick him later? I don't know.

Yeah, also it says in the rules specifically not to ask to be a GM, i'm sure if they needed GM's they would work out something themselves.

being a GM is not all it cracked up to be =\...........

its nice feeling like a king and sitting on your throne...but once that celebration is over.....the king needs to listen to his villager's complaints....and work out a solution...........every....single.....day..........

But if i had to guess....i'd say a nice well known knowledge of the game, data, sprite, game play, and functions...also know more than the players about the game, and when faced with a problem you can calmly and quickly solve it...

How undeniably true. Server owner is even worse :3

and when you thought of an idea and it was posted by some other GM the other GM take credit =\....and theres a alot of work to do everyday......can't even touch the game screen of RO

a word of advice if taken up the GM role....you must face the fact that sometime in your GM life...or mostly your not going to get credit or be noticed by others for your deeds.....you do it becuz you want to help AnthemRO become strong....not for fame nor glory =\

If you can't find it, parse the url then locate the correct message ID :3

http://www.anthemro.com/forums/index.php/topic,408.msg23326.html#msg23326

Look for msg23326 in the Re: Pictures of Players. Above each post is a link to the exact URL to the post (just hover your mouse over the link). Example: Post at the top of that page is: msg22804, just go down a little until you find 23326.

That or, let the page load up so that the images are in your cache. Close the window and then click on the link again, it should bring you to the correct post and not push posts down due to pictures loading.

I don't want to be a gm, at all @.@
I know that they ask you, not the other way around.
I was just wondering what they needed to know in order to be a gm?  (mysql, gm commands, knowledge of how aegis works, scripting, server/client stuff, be able to answer support questions, etc)

I'd assume they know most of what I just listed, but is there anything else?  The main reason I ask this is because my friend and I were having a little debate on how qualified you have to be to be a gm on this server.

It really depends on what position(s) you're looking at. At least on this server. I know other servers they have more specific positions, such as spriter, web designer, forum mod, etc.

Now this is my understanding, GM Isuzu can whap me if I'm incorrect:

- Sub-GM Requirement -

Pluses:

- High-GM Requirement -

(Other than the sub-GM requirements:

Pluses:

The things that are very difficult to find in a GM are: Common sense, trust worthiness, ability to make non biased decisions, and strong analytical thinking.

  • Be able to take constructive criticism and grow from it

Pluses:

  • Ability to read and write in another language
  • Ability to script
  • Fast learner

- High-GM Requirement -

(Other than the sub-GM requirements:

  • Ability to analyze data. Creativity, thinking skills, critical thinking, & problem solving skills
  • Self-starting personality with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Impeccable organizational ability with an acute ability to prioritize work

Nearly everyone, when the issue is brought up, believe they qualify. Not saying that's wrong, but it's ultimately up to the official GMs here and their preferences.
I think I applied once, but that was when I was probably half drunk and didn't know what I was doing. /ho

Well the patience and the constructive criticism part should not be a major issue for anyone here who does a proper job . Basically those requirements describe mature persona for applying :)

I had not applied for the anima GM thingy due to time constraints then, However of the people who had applied last time I had felt Tizzy,Adie and Venomed were excellent candidates. Lightning was the greatest of all forum staff ever, that guy was cool and could not be provoked by rants. Lastly I felt PR wouldve made a great Forum staff member too, PR could actually stop rants in the ranters. No one to date has that ability.

One of the lesser known qualifications for a GM/admin is impeccable grammar as far as English goes (as this is the main language of communication).

It fits quite neatly under the "* Other than Customer Service type qualifications (professional, manners, and such)" and "* Ability to communicate clearly & efficiently" points.

That alone.... eliminates quite a lot of people who would like to be part of the team. /swt
Title: Re: GM Requirements?
Post by: Razer on January 08, 2008, 03:51:25 pm
Well i feel people would use Microsoft word to make their applications look neat , lol.

Though very rare , even GMs make mistakes with grammar sometimes. I am under the impression - that they run every post of theirs under MS word for complete syntactic sweetness .
