Post by: JackRakanSan on October 04, 2009, 04:21:49 pm
Helllo all...
I searched for a thread on making signatures and I couldn't find anything...
I've seen tons of them and I'd like to have one of my own... And yet I have no idea where to begin...
So tips? Help? Anything?
Anything and everything would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Not sure exactly which part of signature making you need help with (maybe everything?), so I'll run down a few points, and hopefully at least something will be useful to you.
1) To edit your signature, click on "Profile," and then go to "Forum Profile Information." There is a section towards the bottom of that page for signature code.
2) The images you see in signatures are usually created in photoshop or MS Paint, or some other similar image-editing program. Either that, or they're found by surfing the web and taking something you like that you've seen somewhere else. Either way, you will need a url for the image (for example: http://www.whatever.com/imagename.jpg).
3) Once you have the url for the image, you will need to put image tags around that url. Image tags are as follows:
[img]insert image url here[/img] 4) Make sure you read the forum posting guidelines, located HERE (http://www.anthemro.com/forums/index.php/topic,5.msg5.html#msg5), as anything in your signature will need to comply with those guidelines.
I guess I'll leave it at that for now until I see if you had any other questions. :)

Get either gimp/photo shop CS2/3 first.
Find a good stock render/photo, begin to manipulate that render or photo. Apply image, add some filters/color gradients at that point. Then move into text and a border.
Its simple and I clearly didn't give you specifics on how to manipulate anything, but you can end up creating some cool stuff. My Sig isn't amazing, but its some of the stuff you can do to pictures in photoshop ( everything in that picture was created by me, except the stock image of a guy in a Kanti suit holding a bass guitar. ) I used multiple layers, C4d's, stock images and a bunch of effects ( very few of which were filters ).
I'll link you to a few easy tutorials and a few places to find good high quality renders.
renders:

Tutorials: ( you WILL need to sign up the forums to see this stuff, but they come out beautiful and its worth the 3 minutes it takes )
Oh and a small tip, filters are generally what people start using as they go into photo shop, but the faster you move away from filters the more intricate and detailed things you can do.
Edit* Right, Gimp is like a combination of MS paint and photoshop, its not as high quality as photo shop but it's infinitely better than MS paint. And best of all, its 100% free, created by people who just love photo manipulation. Here's a link to their official website: http://www.gimp.org/

Thanks both of you for your help! I'll get right on making a good one... I'm not artistically inclined... But I should be able to rustle up something though... Thanks again!!!

I am not certain if it has been mentioned yet, but we also have a very talented Artists Corner!
Many people there offer to make signatures for players. Some for free ( occasionally ), others for the price of zeny or ad credits. So if you don't want to go trough the hassle of making one yourself, you will be able to pick up a hand made signature for yourself there.

I never like disagreeing with the server owner, but most of the sig's in the artist corner are like " :x meh :FFFFFFFFFF " If your going to get a sig of that type I say try and make your own first at the very least, remake it at least once after your initial attempt and see how that one comes out. No one makes gold on their first attempt ( and in some peoples cases first 100 attempts ) but really give it a good go and see what you get! I would be more than happy to help you critique it into something you would actually use, as long as your willing to put in the effort to try and make your own. :)

Had to pop in and say:
I love your sig.

Me too! It's really cool... It's like a combo of FCLC, Daft Punk, and that old skating game where you had to spray paint things... Jet Grind Radio I think...

Thanks. :) I really love that red color that the Kanti suit has, so I had to use it! I ended up using like 4 backround pics, way more C4d's and an insane amount of smudging + new layers. Making stuff in Photoshop is a lot more fun than you would think, so give it a try and show me what you get.

I'm kinda worried... I've looked at it since I downloaded it and I'm kinda afraid to do anything for fear I should make something good and then mess it up completely! XD

I have to agree there, most of the sigs in artists corner aren't exactly bad but they're the kind of sigs people pull of in the 5 minutes. 1. get brusehs 2. Brush 3. Plug render in 4. ??? 5. Profit.

If you're really interested in making sigs I suggest you look through few tutorials first, Pixel2Life (http://www.pixel2life.com/tutorials/adobe_photoshop/forum_sigs/) for example is a great source for some very good tutorials.
Read some tutorials and try to make something by yourself, chances are your first sigs will fail horribly. Probably dozens of your first sigs will look pretty bad, but eventually they'll start to look better, more refined and more personal. Always aim to make your sigs look like you, a lot of people tend to just make stuff that look good but ends up lacking personality.
