Title: Services and startups on the computer
Post by: exDragon on September 20, 2009, 01:31:48 pm
I was messing with them and I got rid of all the services except the microsoft only ones. Then I went back through and turned on all the ones that have updater in there name and symantec Core LC. Then I went to startup turned on all the ones that go to the nortan folder, my wirless antenna software folder and have have update in its name. Is anyone aware if doing this will mess up anything. Also when i restarted my computer, the norton icon is not in the tray but I still see the phishing protection in my web browser. How do I know if I turned everything on related to norton and how to i get the tray display back?

Well the best way to figure out is tto check if your computer sill does everything you want it to do. Internet connection? Virus protection? Firewall? Display settings? Computer sharing? File sharing? USB? Windows updates?
If all that works then you're fine, and to get the tray icon back you should either turn the startup program back on you disabled. Though I'd advice you to do a compelte system restore on a point before you messed up with services and startup. Then go here http://www.theeldergeek.com/services_guide.htm And before disabling any services look them from there.
After which go disabling startup programs, and if you're not 100% sure on what some of the programs do google the executable name on the startup lsit.
