I think it's pretty lame that the GMs need to hide their identities in the first place.
If I were working hard on a server, and if some little fuckmook started spreading shit about me, I'd ban that wonderful fellow's ass in a second, teach em to shut the fuck up and be grateful.
But the staff here is much too lenient.

There are at least two good reasons I can think of for the identity hiding:
1) So that the GM's are capable of playing the game still on "civilian" characters without being swarmed by people who want a GM's attention for one reason or another. 2) So that people don't start drama concerning guilds that one or more GM's belong to.
To sum it up, the GM's hide their identities so they are still able to enjoy simply playing the game.
As for the tarping. Meh. If you're using secret identities anyway, does it really make a difference whether your alt is allegedly male or female? It's not like you're going to date or cyber with a GM, so gender should be pretty irrelevant.

There aren't any more tarping GMs anyways, at least not that I know of. I was the last one. Lol.
Anyways, it's a role playing game. What if someone wants to play the role of another gender? And yes, Jangster is just around to start trouble.

On Tarps in General.
I have heard lame excuses on Playing Tarps before the only reasonable one was given by Dew (I think)
"If I have to play hours looking at a sprite - Id rather have it be an interesting female sprite then a male sprite(Cause That would make one gay)."

I wouldn't really go so far as to call it sprite infatuation. If you don't like the way a male sprite looks, why not use the female? Or if you don't like the way a female sprite looks, why not use the male? It's just like choosing colors. If you like blue over red, then you use Blue for your character. I wouldn't go so far as to call it "color infatuation" Lol :P
The female worgens look ridiculous.

In the case of the Bard/Dancer jobs, you may be forced to tarp in order to play it.
Tarping never bothered me because the first multiplayer online game I ever played was Phantasy Star Online. In that game, there actually was a game-mechanic difference between playing the game with a male character vs a female character of the same class. For example, the male might be better with attack spells, while the female is better with support spells, so if you wanted to play a certain type of character, you could be forced to tarp. As a result, seeing people playing characters opposite of their irl gender was pretty common.

Oh and hiding identities has a very simple reason: Bias. Not bias by the GMs to the players, but rather the other way around. If a player doesn't get along with another player, and that other player becomes a GM, they would not feel comfortable by their tickets being handled by that person since they dislike them and would expect a "rough" or "unprofessional" treatment. So if that GM then tells them they will have to pay the recovery fee, the player might start shit saying that "Oh you are only saying this cause you hate me" etc. etc. etc.
We want to be viewed as the staff, not as anyone else. We work on a unbiased basis and we don't favor ( or shun ) anyone. Giving up our identities and adapting a new one is part of this process.

Additionally to what Talis said, I wouldn't like to reveal my identity for another reason, that is, people that still play and that are in your ICQ/MSN/AIM contact list. It didn't only happen once that players who figured out who I am (or thought they did) started IMing me, asking me to take care of their problems, to answer their questions, etc. Now, if you've got a problem or a question, you send in a support ticket like everyone else, and although I might consider them as friends, I don't want to favor them by helping them the "inofficial" way, instead of the "official" way via support ticket, just because they know me. Talk about favoritism, lol. Most of you guys have never been a GM, so you don't know what it is like to be one. :-X
As for the tarping issue: Although Praeline likes to refer to me as an individual with large fluffy breasts, I am actually a male.

plus, being proud ownder of 6 mains of wich 3 males and 3 females, i dont care about the gender, i dont hide it either when im tarping. what matters is if the sprite of the class i want to play looks better as male, or as female

tesla did something with electricity i believe. I only remember this because whenever i played command and conquer i get tesla tanks which shoot out lightning ftw

Rofl nice. Tesla did a lot with electric currents and magnetism. His name is also a measurement for magnetism I believe (unless I failed Physics hardcore). He also created the Electric Motor, and as a result, there's a car thats worth 100k+ USD called the Tesla Roadster and is pure electric. :D
