Title: Ro messes my computer up
Post by: Mexico_san on August 17, 2009, 10:40:29 pm
So my computer started having some display driver errors, it would freeze everytime i went on RO, then the screen would turn black and i could no longer play RO. after a while it got so bad that the screen began to be full of green and pink squares, after i could no longer go on it as it would freeze at the start up screen or even before we got to the start up screen.
We cleaned the insides of the cpu to remove dust or anything that might have been causing the pc to overheat.
After we cleaned it we could at least be on the computer for a few moments before it would freeze.
Fearing it could be hardware malfunctioning we decided to format the computer.
Formatting worked, it didnt freeze or did anything weird like it did before, however 2 days since then (today) i decided to download Ro once again because i cant leave guild anlone etc.
I finally finish the download i patch i everything. then i move around and my computer freezes again....
I really want to play Ro again, can anyone help me with this?

I'm looking to see if your Graphics card is even supported.  If none of the above or my link works, try running it on anything BUT your graphics card in the setup.exe

oi, it sais theres a problem with the adress, even just typing www.eggheadcafe.com says service unavailable

Edit: Okai.. apparently the site works now, im gonna have a look, thanks :)

Edit: Okay i may need some help with this

I have found and fixed the problem today.  This is what appears to happen.
during the installation of the most current drivers 100.65 Vista, an OLD file
nvlddmkm.sys is copied into windows/system32/drivers and not the current one
in the install.  As a result the new drivers are attempting to access a file
dated 11/2006 instead of 2/2007 ver 7.15.11.0065 which is in the newest WHQL
driver ver 100.65 vista 32.

Fix:  Go to windows/system32/drivers and rename nvlddmkm.sys to
nvlddmkm.sys.old.  Go to the nvidia directory and find the file nvlddmkm.sy_
and copy it to windows/system32.  Using the cmd window (DOS box) type
EXPAND.EXE nvlddmkm.sy_ nvlddmkm.sys.  When the expansion is complete, copy
the new nvlddmkm.sys to windows/system32/drivers and restart the computer.

Your computer should now work properly.

You will notice that any uninstall and reinstall of nvidia drivers will not
remove the old nvlddmkm.sys file and will not overwrite it with the newer
version.  You have to do it manually. I do not know why this happens but who
cares as long it is fixed.

Good luck...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I made it to the last step where it tells me to go to cmd and type EXPAND.EXE nvlddmkm.sy_nvlddmkm.sys
when i type this into cmd it tells me "No destination specified for nvlddmkm.sy_nvlddmkm.sys."
After I tried to type "EXPAND.EXE nvlddmkm.sys windows/system32/drivers"
And it tells me "Can't open input file nvlddmkm.sy..."

Any idea on how do it?

I suggest to try to do it in diffrent PC and check if it will happen to others also, as i can see your problem is in the hardware just like other have said its either your graphixs card are malfactioning, just check while the cpu is open if the fan of the graphix card are working during the test, maybe it will run for a while then suddenly stops. or check your hard disk try to run system scan for a while to know if your hard disk is having bad sector. even you format it, if the disk is damage already no matter how many time you try eventually it will happen again and again to you...

Go away Infalk.

it's saying to go to run, type in CMD and run it.

Then type in
EXPAND.EXE nvlddmkm.sy_ nvlddmkm.sys

once it completes, copy the new file to windows/system32/drivers
then restart

yea.. but it doesnt work it tells me either i didnt select a destination for it or that it cant access nvlddmkm.sy_

nvlddmkm.sys.old and nvlddmkm.sy_  are in  (System32/drivers)

and a nvlddmkm.sy_ is in (system32)

nvlddmkm.sy_ in the system32 folder needs to be expanded, and then put into the drivers folder

make sure that you're running CMD as an administrator and on the admin account.
