Title: Aro Wiki?
Post by: Stephanie J on July 12, 2009, 02:20:30 pm
I did a search and all I found was a bloody ton of links to wiki, so here's the question. What's aro wiki's status? Is it ever gonna happen, or has something happened where it's been stalled or stopped permanently? The last time I even remember hearing about it in passing was when the forum titles were changed.

They stopped it. I think it was because someone had a big mouth but I'm not 100% sure.

I'm not sure what a big mouth has to do with cancelling a wiki project...

The big mouth issue had something to do with the beta projects. aRO wiki was scrapped for unknown reasons.

:-\ I suppose I'll start lurking pc bot's site and looking for stuff I'm not sure of being on this server since the other options are limited and irritating XD

Well the community can still create one just like someone created PC bot and someone had created AnimaRO shoppes. Requires outside effort I suppose and no rewards obviously other then respect from a few people and flaming from people who find mistakes :P

but it's just so much data to go through. the high wizard discussion thread alone has over 100 pages :( and then like you'd need to integrate and organize all that data and then you'd still have to properly credit each person who'd contributed that particular info and it's just @.@ /lazy

How would we even go about starting it? I wouldn't mind trying to give it a shot. I have time on my hands when I can't sleep and I'm prone to typing bullshit to keep myself entertained, so why not type up items and their descriptions. ._. Doubt it'll work though.

well yea, making that custom database, while time consuming, is pretty easy, so that'd be a good place to start. i just meant the other stuff-game mechanics and various strategies and methods that people put in. pretty much what the ro guides will be about. lol. copy-pasta-ing the discussion threads are gay. ~.~
and i mean, there are free webs everywhere to host it neh?

Or we could make a hall of text walls with hyper links and the occasional pictures - A wiki is intended to cover basics and the definition - not the personal opinion of people in discussion threads anyway /heh
We could simply add that as references in the end. Wiki is not a one person's job - It requires active participation of people rather then people who volunteer just to look tight. /heh

So where would we cross-reference things to see if, say Angelic Wing Dagger, drops in this server? I check the item shop, but I don't see that there. I wouldn't mind trying somethings out, it all be fail anyhow XD, but a bit confused on that.

Yeah, that's the irritating and limited part I was talking about. I've had several questions about gear existing in this server that just slipped under the water line and were never answered. That's most of the reason behind all my QQing about the wiki.

Yeah that the only real reason I want a wiki lots of stuff is easy to find but finding what items exist or dont (or ones that are custom mods for the server) can be a real pain so something like that would be really helpful

Wiki keeps updating on newer information. Although as I said a portal like Rms for aRO would be better and easier to implement although only the site owner can update as opposed to wiki. Both approaches have pro and cons.
We will need to create an indexed knowledge bank first /heh And then the wiki team must come up with an organized structure to divide the data into . Newer data can be added by aRO forum people. The wiki team will mod the edits as well as ban malicious users.
This need the help of the staff as well as webspace, I am sure the new PRs can help us out with that here?

also could be use to tell what uses items have that would stop all the *insert item name here* do? That way we, because i am sure there are many players who have no idea what certain items do, know weather to vend, or just npc. Info like that would be really useful.
Since it would be in wiki format you could even go as far as include current market values of the item. Im sure there would be people who wouldnt have much of a problem doing this considering all the PC's that go on now as it is.
