Title: Rogues and dual wield?
Post by: Indignation Genesis on July 01, 2009, 05:53:39 pm
Hey guys, im trying to decide between assassin and rogue for my thief, and ive played assassin to a pretty high level so I know how they work, but im just curious about rogues. Ive read guides, and the various abilities rogues have and nothing really mentioned if rogues could dual wield like assassins.. can they? And, i also read rogues have abilties tied to bows, is it common, or even more effective to use a bow than a dagger? I never really noticed anybody playing rogues back when I was on my sin so I really just assumed it was a boring class. Thanks in advance for your responses.

No duel weilding on Rogues.
rogues usually prefer Bows because Dex increases their ATK power, which also increases your stripping rate. So instead of Statting in STR for dagger dmage, they leave str and pack more DEX using a bow. Plus, ranged attacking is always a plus.

Ah, you seem like you have/have played a rogue, did you find the experience fun and the leveling fast?

The experience is certainly fun, rogues get some unique abilities mainly plaguerise; this lets them copy a single skill from another player (Not permanently).
As for fast leveling, there are inherant benefits to playing a rogue and also downsides. To be fair they don't level any faster, nor any slower than other jobs but there are certainc tactics to get them to level fast.
Such as using plaguerise for a magic attack like storm gust and then leveling like a wizard would.
So to summarize, they are a fun class to play especially if you like to be a jack of all trades, but in terms of attacking ability a sin will in most cases out damage a rogue. (In most cases, definately not all.)

Thanks for the in depth response. I've got another question (sorry lol) when you plagiarise an ability, for example a magic spell from a wizard would the damage outcome reflect your stats? So, would you have to allocate for int and stuff to see a benefit from a storm gust?

If you're planning to level a rogue, I highly recommend copying the Turn Undead Skill, and fighting Anubis's. You can 1 shot them, and they give outrageous amounts of exp. I leveled my rogue 55-90 on Anubis's in one day (with the 2x exp event). However, you'll need undead armor in order to make Turn Undead hit you to copy it.
As for Fun factor, Rogues are tons of fun. Theyre a diverse class that can do alot of different things. Stripping is their best tool PVP wise, and with a DD Comp bow and a lot of Dex, you can be a real threat. In PVM, they can use bows and daggers, and you can copy useful skills such as Raging Trifecta Blow, Crimson fire formation, or Storm Gust to help you out.
