Title: Newbie
Post by: falconex1 on February 21, 2009, 02:32:38 pm
I am just about to start downloading this game, a friend recommended I look for a free server, and I have seen this one several times before I was looking hehe.
I have played a few MMORPG's, Everquest, DAoC, WoW, and Guildwars. I also played FFXI a little bit, but got tired of the horrid customer service I always seemed to run into.
Lately I have been having a rough time trying to find a MMO that I could settle in to. I have tried several 'free' MMO's, but then found out that I could not really have much fun without spending some of my money to buy in game licenses, or items.
Another thing I noticed about quite a few of these games was that the starting town was usually so bogged down with market bots, and spam bots, that you could hardly move, let alone speak to the starting NPC's and get your first set of quests.
So anyways enough of that, what can you guys tell me about this game? Is there a starter guide? Does it compare to other MMO's in Play style? Is there a good in game community? And how much time would I have to put into the game to reach a point that, say I join a guild, I could be a benefit?
Thanks for any info you all give!, I look forward to playing.

awesome community, awesome GMs, awesome experience overall :P its a little hard to get started, but there are many people willing to help you out along the way! (There are a few bad ones, just ignore them and dont let them bother you >_> most people are nice here, thankfully)
check this out to help you get started: http://www.anthemro.com/forums/index.php/topic,9083.0.html - Dutchy's Newbie Guide http://www.anthemro.com/forums/index.php/topic,6010.0.html - Razer's Guide to making money for newbies http://www.anthemro.com/forums/index.php/topic,1426.0.html - class specific guides for when you choose your class
hope that helps, enjoy your stay :)
forgot to mention; there are guilds you can join that will accept any levels, so you can start making friends almost immediately. You do have to put in quite a lot of time to be top-tier, but not so much if you just wanna enjoy the game instead of be the best at it. WOE guilds (those that go out and fight other guilds) will probably want more skilled players, so you'd have to put in some effort before you can go into those. There is a place for almost anybody - you CAN be a newbie and still join a WOE guild that's just going for fun and not to win.

I've started playing, seems fun so far, but so many classes to choose from. Where would I go to find a decent guild? Someone invited me to one just before he disbanded it, so that was useless.... then some guy followed me around payon dungeon stealing all my kills, didn't catch his name though... I guess you are gonna get those types in these free online games though.

first level payon dungeon is a KS zone so people are allowed to kill you monsters there. Prison is one too, and so is orc dungeon level one. If you dont want to be KSed then go to a different map. For guilds, usually you'll find people recruiting in game using chat boxes or just spamming text saying they're recruiting. If you want, go to "guild and party recruitment" and browse the guilds to find one you can fit in with. And finally, for classes.. well... you can check this site; ratemyserver.net and look around at the class information there to see what you might like best :) hope that helps
