Title: why cant i make a char ?

i have gotten myself an account and when i attempt to make a char there just comes a message telling me that the Character name already exists or I'm using illegal characters
and i have tryed loads of names so i dont understand whats going on, can any one help me fix this ?

Perhaps you are using the wrong slots. Currently, we can only use 5 out of the 9. Try clicking on the small blue arrows at the sides and see if you still encounter this problem.
