Is there pets in the game?  Also, how do you get pets , pet "eggs"??

yes there are pet pet eggs can be purchase from merchants or you need to buy tamming item to tame them and be sure to feed them or they will run away

EDIT:
to hatch em u need incubator also bought in pet people :D

How do merchants get the pet eggs? OR do you mean merchant as in a NPC???

npcs dont sell pet eggs, only pet tameing items, pet food and pet accesorys to make them look cuter :3
merchants buy tameing items from the npcs then go and catch pets, vending them afterwards makeing a variable profit depending on wich pet they're sellying and how many tameing items they used to catch it
npcs for the pet stuffys are on the lower left corner of alberta or in pontera on the street from the fountain going right ~nyo^^
