Title: Any way to play this at school? <_<
Post by: Aryia on October 08, 2008, 09:50:57 am
Alright, so I downloaded and installed AnthemRO. Worked fine at home on my laptop, but at school I assume that they've got all the important ports (for gaming <_<) blocked. So, I get through the patcher fine here, but when I try to log in.. Enter in my username and pass, hit enter, wait a while.. Disconnected from server. I assume it's a port being blocked, or something.. Anyone know of a way around this? >:

I really thought about your situation many times but i have just come up with one answer  ......

School is a place to study not to play games .
Don't use school facilties for self entertainment .
And wow you have the time to play Ro in school .

Sorry if i was harsh but you really must be told these things .

Well, I finished my midterms, got an A+ on my accounting and such, and of course I have time to play school. I have 1-2 hour breaks inbetween some 50 min classes.

Buy the tech department a case(s) of beer?  If they have it locked down by port I don't think there is anyway around it besides trying to persuade them to open the port because an "important application" you really need to use to succeed uses that port *bats eyes at tech department*

. . and you'd have to know what port anthem uses, which I don't know ><

Don't download it. Use a usb drive that has a ro folder in it. That's wat i did to play at school during study hall/ ;D

I use a USB drive at my school.  Fortunately the port isn't blocked;  the only downside is that some of the computers it won't work for some reason.  When I start anthem, it just goes into the setup program and when I close that, it goes to setup again.  But many computers it works just fine.  But yeah, use it on a USB drive, don't install on the school computer.

As for the ports... well, you can talk to your tech department but I doubt they'd be too sympathetic to that  :-\  Still, you could try.  Best of luck, anyways.

P. S.  This week is midterms for us.  So far I'm doing fine.  Of course I don't have grades this semester, but so far I've always had As except for one B last semester.  And I'm lazy as hell, spend far too much time gaming, etc.  So it can be done, you just have to be smart ;-)

I only know Hamachi allows you to bypass any port blocks o_o
(I've tried it with a friend and it actually works o_O)

/facepalm. No no no guys, it's not that RO isn't working, my laptop runs it perfectly fine at home. The same laptop which I take to school, however, won't connect because of an (assumed) port blockage. I'll try out Hamachi :3

Get your own internet card so you don't have to use the school's network while at school. That way nothing's blocked.

You could always unlock the ports. But that tends to get your computer tracked down and blocked. Best bet is to find someone in the tech department and talk to them. Most of the time they have back doors that they use for such things and will let you use.

You could pay for your own internet card but that costs a decent amount of cash a month =/
