Title: Downloading anthemro with a mac?
Post by: Auichi on August 31, 2008, 09:38:16 am
does anyone here play off of a mac? If so how were you able to download anthemro?
I was going to download it as a torrent, but utorrent doesn't work with macs ,so are there other torrent programs out there that are? I've downloading the other two ways listed as well from the download page and neither has worked.
If anyones able to give me any kind of advice Id greatly appreciate it, thanks a lot ^^

Yes , I play on my Macbook Pro, but you've got to do it through bootcamp, with a copy of windows. Doesn't work in OSX.

Yes, theres no way to play in native OSX.
youll need:
An Intel Mac A copy of Windows XP/ or Vista.
Open spotlight ( the magnifiying glass in the upper right corner) in OSX, and type Boot Camp, and you should see the Boot Camp Assistant (im also assuming you have leopard, I think Tiger needs a seperate download), which will walk you through the process of installing windows. Once windows is installed, you boot to that, then you download the aRO installer and install and play.
If your Mac runs off of a PowerPC processor (older macs), or you don't have access to a copy of windows, unfortunately you're out of luck.

Yeah 'fraid you Mac users have to Wine to play RO =/. And no Wine is not an insult people >> It stands for Windows Emulation.

If you can't get a copy of windows, I'm pretty sure you can run RO on Linux.
Oh btw, /HAET OSX.

What? Boot Camp boots Windows natively on the hardware. There is no performance difference between Windows thru Boot Camp compared to Windows running on your normal PC. If your talking about playing through a windows virtual machine through OSX (like Parallels/ Fusion), I'd highly recommend against it, considering you'll be using generic video drivers and wont be taking advantage of your graphics card (meaning youll probably get an error when you try and start the game, it doesn't run at all on Fusion for me).
edit* Just looked up wine on google, and it does look like a virtual machine program for OSX. You don't need it to play, just use Boot Camp and run Windows like a normal PC. (same can be said for ANY Windows game you want to play on your Mac).

Wine is a program yes but its turned into a general term any time your emulating windows on a mac. Boot camp does this just using a more direct route than most 'emulation' programs.

Boot Camp performs no emulation or virtualization, actually in essence its just a HDD partition manager.
With a fancy name of course.

Please don't post if you have no idea what your talking about. Boot Camp is NOT emulation.

Neither is Wine. Wine Is Not an Emulator. I personally play AnthemRO on Linux using Wine. Wine does allow you to take full advantage of all your hardware. I'm aware that Wine runns on OSX, but I've never done it myself before.

Never said it was. I don't have any experience with the program, so I can't really comment on it. Even if it isn't an emulator, if you're running it through OSX, you'll be dedicating your system to powering both OS' at the same time, which will result in lowered performance. I suppose if you have the RAM it shouldn't matter, but since I've never used it, again, can't really comment on how it works.
Back to the topic at hand though - Boot Camp is going to be the easiest way for OP to get Anthem running on their Mac without headaches, plain and simple.
