Title: Party Setup Menu Question(s)
Post by: PyneApll on August 20, 2008, 02:31:50 am
Sorry, this might be a lot to read. I'm somewhat of a writing freak x____x; Regardless, I would love your help in this matter.
I was about to go "niffing" in a party of three one night when a question (a minor disagreement, rather) arose. My job, as the blacksmith, was to use the Greed skill to pick up the loot that was dropped by the monsters that were being killed by my fellow party members. I noticed that on the Party Setup Menu (Alt+P), the option for "How to share Items" was on "Each Take." Knowing that while this was implemented, I would not be able to pick up the loot immediately after it was dropped, as I would receive the "You cannot pick up this item" message. That was when I suggested to the party-maker to remake the party, with the "Party Share" option on.
The suggestion was immediately rejected, and I was ridiculed; my fellow party members, believing that with their superior and more extensive knowledge of partying and niffing, thought that my suggestion would lead to the fact that whenever I were to Greed some loot, some of the items would randomly be given to them, proving a minor inconvenience. I disagreed with this notion, claiming that that was not what I had intended.
Now to my understanding, what my party members were speaking of was related to a completely different option in the Party Setup Menu.
The following is an explanation of my current knowledge of how a Party Setup works:
How to share EXP: (Self explanatory) (When a party is first created, the popup window does NOT include this option to configure. However, it does show up after opening ALT+P) -Each Take -Even Share
How to share Items: (Shown in new party popup window. Can only be configured then, and NOT through Alt+P) -Each Take = When a monster is killed, only the party member that killed that monster can immediately pick up the items that are dropped. -Even Share = When a monster is killed, ANY of the party members in the same party as the person who killed the monster can pick up the items, without getting a "You cannot pick up this item" message.
Item sharing type: (Shown in new party popup window. Can only be configured then, and NOT through Alt+P) -Individual = When an item is picked up, only the person who picked up that item will receive it. -Shared = When an item is picked up by a person, there is a random(?) chance that that item will be given to another person in the same party.
My first question is: IS THE ABOVE CORRECT?
This leads to my second question. A while later, my party members finally agreed that my explanation was correct (or so I thought). However, they believed that one of the options regarding the item sharing was a new implementation of a recent August or July '08 update. I disagreed, and told them that all three options (How to share EXP, How to share Items, Item sharing type) in the Party Setup Menu had always been there, even before the update, and they had been there since 3 years ago, when I first joined this server, and first started playing RO.
Therefore, my second question is: WERE ALL THREE PARTY OPTIONS ALWAYS THERE IN THE ALT+P MENU, EVEN BEFORE THE RECENT UPDATE, AND NOT A NEW IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS UPDATE?
What I think made my party members believe contrarywise to my claim was the fact that when you first /organize a party, the window that pops up to allow the party-maker to configure the setup ONLY includes the options for "How to share Items" and "Item sharing type", which are the two options that can ONLY be configured then and there, while the "How to share EXP" option is not displayed, and is later accessable through Alt+P. I believe that the inclusion of only two options in the popup is what influenced their opinions on this topic.
I would very much rather a veteran RO player or GM answer these questions, as they would probably know and give a more credible answer to both.
Excuse: I have put so much effort into getting the answer to my questions because I'm quite stubborn, and will probably not rest until this issue (even if it is a trifle) is resolved, and my dignity is restored.
(Hooboy, what a term paper @______@ I shouldn't do this anymore...I sound like such a nerd)
Thank you all for reading!

Oh my...So much stuff to read. All in proper grammar and punctuation too. Good job /no1
Anyway,
For your first question, I find that everything is correct except for...
Quote
How to share Items: (Shown in new party popup window. Can only be configured then, and NOT through Alt+P) -Each Take = When a monster is killed, only the party member that killed that monster can immediately pick up the items that are dropped. -Even Share = When a monster is killed, ANY of the party members in the same party as the person who killed the monster can pick up the items, without getting a "You cannot pick up this item" message.
The person who does the most damage to the monster gets item priority. So even if a player doesn't deliver the finishing blow, but he does deal the most damage to the monster, he gets priority.
For the second question, the party options have always been there for as far back as I can remember and that's a really long time.

Yeah the descriptions are correct including the previous poster's.
And those options have been there for a while, they are just worded in a confusing way. They were not just recently implemented with the recent update.
