Title: Frequent Time Gaps
Post by: acrylic27 on March 12, 2008, 12:57:40 am
So I get the dreaded time gap disconnects every so often when I play on my home computer. It's a completely new install and computer and the only firewall I have up is Norton Antivirus 2006. I used to have an older version installed and it didn't give me problems before. Anyone seen symptoms like this before? I tried disabling all of Norton, but it seems like I may have to completely uninstall it to see if it is the cause or not, but before I do this, I wanted to see if anyone had this problem.

I certainly don't.

It's probably just because of your internet connection...

Would you tell us which country you live in? Also, what ISP are you using?

I doubt it's my internet connection because I never had this issue with my old computer and my laptop that is on the same router/dsl does not get disconnected. Also, I'm in US and dsl provider is AT&T.

I get that regularly(2-3 times an hour at least TT_TT), and I know it's my internet connection- are you using wireless?
If you're using your laptop's built-in wireless it may not be very good, you could try with a cable from your modem and see if that fixes it.
Of course, if you're cabled already I don't know what it could be.

Edit, sorry, I thought you meant you were playing on a laptop, but I reread and that's not the computer you're having problems with is it?
Thus, my advice is invalid unless you're on wireless, in which case you may as well try.
But Norton is an infamous nuisance, you're probably going to want it of your computer eventually for one reason or another. It could easily be that.

Yea, laptop is ok and both computers are wired. I am probably going to switch over to AVG or kapersky(sp?) if the issue persists.

Zonealarm as your firewall.
Adaware to protect from spyware.
AVG for virus protection.
