Title: Wireless Networks
Post by: exDragon on January 28, 2008, 10:12:54 am
I'm using a wireless network and sometimes I can go hours without disconnecting while other times, someone walking in the hallway disconnects me.  What causes this wide variety of signal quality and how can I make the signal stronger?

How far are you from the router?

1. Get a better router with more range if you have an older model.
2. Move your location closer to the router, or move your router closer to you. The more walls and space in between you and the router, the weaker the strength of the signal.
3. Get a Wireless Range Extender of sorts.
4. Don't use wireless and try using powerline adapters instead. What it is, is you plug an AC adapter to the wall that has an ethernet jack. You then plug a wire from your router to the ac adapter. Go to where your computer is, then plug another powerline adapter into the jack near your computer and then hook that up to your machine. You'll get a stronger connection and there isn't much hassle with wires and you don't have to deal with you dcing so often.
