Title: Should I have been Banned?
Post by: Forgotten Experiment on July 21, 2013, 03:05:07 am
Before the action was done, you warned the GMs it WAS going to happen.... Happened, and was banned. Even after warning them it was going to happen?
I posted a Rant a while ago about my brother threatening me that he was going to 'Vote' on his OWN computer if I didn't give him some of my Gears.... So I told the GMs about it, nothing really happened...
Then he 'Voted'
I got banned.
Now, the Cooldown goes throughout the whole IP but back then it didn't happen like that...
Should I have been banned, even though I warned them?
My Forum account wasn't banned. But every single character that was used on my IP was banned...
Player since, Start of AnthemRO.

Unfortunately what Tesla had told you in your tickets is correct - When someone is banned it is based purely on IP, since they is really the only way we have to distinguish between individuals on the internet.
Yeah... But I told them beforehand what was going to happen, I am sure if I was telling them this they knew something was happening and I wouldn't want myself banned... If you purposely did it and knew the consequences, would you come back starting fresh? I don't think so... That's why I came back...

1. When you say "you told them" do you mean you sent in a ticket or the rant you made would draw their attention?
2. If you did send in the ticket did they reply to it at all?
3. If he didn't send you the ads he voted for I don't even see how there would be major problem if you told them a head of time he would be doing this. It's not like you ran some operation where logs show him giving you the ads he used to vote for over any period of time.
4. I remember reading posts about people admitting to getting buddies that didn't even play the game to vote for them and send them ads from different locations. (Which imo is worse).
Not that any of this matter but if you reached out personally in a ticket I don't see how this issue even made it this far. Of course that goes without saying I know little to nothing about the situation at large.

I sent in a ticket, sadly the old tickets are now gone, I would copy and paste them here but I have no access to them now.
The GMs did see the Rant and the ticket as well.
Even though the GMs has been saying that I should have been banned, I have that urge feeling to keep coming back because I shouldn't have been banned....

Actually... You did not really provide us with any warning that your brother was going to cause any scams. You created a ticket requesting information on how to block the server from another computer, because your brother was so addicted to the game, and to him, "game>school".
It wasn't until after you were banned that you suddenly started bringing up that he was actually "threatening" you.
If you would like, I can post a screenshot of your original ticket, as well as a history of your previous tickets.

Ugh... I thought I had done a ticket giving a Warning... How long after the Bann was the Ticket made? :/
Then this ends my case, because I cannot provide anything else.
Just very disliked this Bann, just because of him... I guess it's something after Helping you guys Bann others for Ad Fraud/RwT/DoubleAccounts :-X

2012-01-08 19:33:12 you created your ticket seeing if we could provide a method of blocking a PCs connection.
March 3rd 2012 is when you were banned.

I've had a different but similar situation happen just recently. It's all based around IPs. It sucks terribly. All you can do is move on. Even after so much dedication to the server it's still unrevertable.
Start new and enjoy iy. That's all we can do. Have faith that they see to reason and let you have your stuff back. That's what I'll be doing. I'll be reopening for an appeal after some time and more dedication to the sercer. Hopefully then they'll see to reason. They're only human and it's not their fault that the eAthena developers lack the basic knowlege on how to program simple data collection besides ip addresses.
Shit, I have less experiance and could do it myself. Heh

I know what you mean...
I understand about there system though... It's a nice way to take some Zeny out of the server as well if you think about it. But all those Macros using Blazers on bios just keep adding up more Zeny into the eco.

Yeah... I tend to not want to Trade people whos Zeny is made from AFKing in a place no one goes to with a Bio and a Whitesmith then get banned for doing a transaction as if it was RWT.

These types of bannings without supporting facts are not good for the server. Merely basing things off IP isn't good.
If that was the case, I can go mask my real IP with a proxy and break rules and lose nothing, right? Anyways, it's a little screwed up. Hoping they add more logging eventually. Shame on the other eAthena developers. Unless this is the same system Gravity came up with. We all know how well Gravity does their job.

What if it was just like how a Virus works, the Medical one...
1. To many people 2. Virus 3. Kills people 4. Fixes problem of having to many people? Haha... 99. I am so freaking stupid.
If someone in game is rich, doing large transactions, why not bann both or any involved?
1. Takes Zeny out of the game 2. They know the Player will stay and start over 3. Takes Zeny out of the Game.
Well not exactly out of the game, more likely just sits there with nothing to do at all.

Eh, I don't think so. I think there are some SERIOUS flaws but I do not think the staff would do that.
Not to mention that if they did, it would ultimately hurt the server. Most call me crazy for staying here, considering the current player count.

No, you'd lose the account that was breaking the rules for sure. (Someone else was using your account to do bad things? This is why you're not supposed to share your account information.) Then we could check the IP history of the account that logged in and it's usually easy to piece the rest together from there.

Sadly, if a relative or a sibling started playing this Server and didn't happen to know what would happen after Voting the other player suddenly gets banned not knowing...
Accidental vote frauding can be prevented by making sure that you are the only player from your IP!
GM Izuzu
Making sure? By what? Trying to block the website throughout the rest of the computers in the house? Could've at least made it say, 1 per household or something...
Title: Re: Should I have been Banned?
Post by: Haine on August 01, 2013, 05:27:08 pm
Except if someone else in the same household tried to vote, they shouldn't be able to, because only 1 person per IP can actually vote. So, they would need to go out of their way to vote.

I knew my accounts were going to get banned... Huge reason why my 'brother' Voted. To get me banned...
Just doesn't feel right to get banned for something I didn't want to happen and didn't actually do, I am not a computer guy but hoped they tracked his accounts rather then all of mines...

Here's the thing. The staff members basically tell us to not share accounts/IPs/etc.
However, it's the staffs job to be able to protect us as players too. Adding a second layer of identification is not only easy, but useful for the staff members and community.
Not trying to rebel or be an ass. It's just something that all developers should have in place. At least from my point of view.
->Besides all of above and the slow response time on tickets recently, I am VERY impressed with ALL of the content updates provided to us.<-

I never really had a problem with Response time on tickets ever and always impressed with the content GMs has also been giving out to the server...
But yeah I see your point of identification...
How does the system work with those countries who have IPs that change all the time? Is it India? Not very sure.

We offer item/account recoveries for those that chose to not follow the rules and lend their shiz. Not sure if what you're getting has been scammed or not? Make a ticket! My brother/spouse/uncle/ingame wife/ingame bff stole all my items and I thought I could trust them! Make a ticket! Besides hiding in your closet, or the closet of the person who has scammed you, there isn't much else we can do to "protect" you.
I would make more comments about IPs and reference your ticket, but I feel that is private.
And slow response time to tickets? bish plz. <_> Tickets are generally answered within 1-2 days, and spend credits are done every 2-3 for the most part. It's easier to do a few together. Your guild leader change took longer because I had to confirm whether or not we would actually transfer guild leadership from a banned account to a regular account. I've been spending more of my time trying to finish clearing up the rest of the backlog tickets, and have been quite successful on almost clearing all of them.

Was half at Lav, half general statements? What did I say that made you think you could recover your character? :(
In regards to your other question, people who have varying IPs still have fairly consistent IP patterns recorded. If that makes sense... Not sure it does. :(

I normally don't browse the forums too much. I just happened to have this topic pointed out to me. If you had a question you wanted brought to my attention it's usually easier to just make a ticket.
You can request to see a copy of your previous tickets but they won't be brought back.

I'm not trying to bash, Haine. I've been very pleased with the time you've spent dealing with all of my accounts. Next to Nodhoggs updates, I'd say you're the next staff member I've come to appreciate recently. So please, try not to take it as if I'm trying to put you down. I'm really now. I understand everyone has lives.
Are you saying I can recover my items from my banned accounts? If yes, that would solve most of my problems. I'd be please as is if I could just obtain all of it back.
Proper tracking on the servers end would have resulted in you guys knowing which computer was doing what. That was my point above.

I think she means for scammed items/accounts. And items that you lended out and never got returned. I'm sure items on banned accounts stay on those accounts themselves unless someone else owned that item, then if they make a ticket they would go through the process of getting the item back to that person, for a fee. Or probably the amount of zeny the item was worth. Idk.
Just saying I think she means the scammed items/accounts recovery rules.

Correct... If YOU are banned, YOUR items are locked on the account. I was referring to different cases, such as if you lent people your items and they betrayed you.
Laven, you were on that other IP for more than a week, logging onto a variety of your different accounts. The account was completely linked to you. That's like saying we shouldn't punish someone who goes to an internet cafe to pull a bunch of crap on someone.

If you go stay at a hotel for a week, does that mean you own it? If you go visit your parents for a week, does that mean you own their house? What about if you go on a cruise ship for a weekend? Can you kick the captain off his boat? What if I forward my domain to a web hosts DNS? Does it make the web host my property? How about I visit your web site on and off for a week? Then it certainly belongs to me, right? I surely hope you don't let your kids(If you have any) visit their grandparents for a week. You might find out that since they were there that long that you've lost custody of your kids.

I'm sorry, but I don't really understand what your point is? If you decide to share your account information with someone who's going on a cruise and they decide to not on your account, you take responsibility for their actions as well.
We have a few other ways to identify people, I'm just not stating what they are. It's all pretty simple and common sense though. Maybe we should implement something that occasionally takes photos of whoever is playing? :P For your protection.
Honestly though, we haven't had any issues with simply using an IP to help identify people and what accounts they're using. So what if we also logged additional information like Mac addresses or computer ID? Who is to say someone won't just use their brothers computer and then state, "No it was really my brother!! D: "
Hopefully no lame typos have appeared. Phone typing isn't always the funnest :P

I think in general it would minimize innocent people getting banned, that's all.
Everyone knows sometimes someone else gets caught in something. Even when selling accounts. I think it happens more often then.
If there is an opportunity to help collect more facts about what's going on, why not? xD Not to mention, it is easier to change an IP than the later.

honestly i dont get what else you think they should log o.o even if its on a completely random IP you are still responsible for what happens with your account.....in the case of selling an account, ss it...so you can prove you sold it and its not linked to yours anymore. other than that you should be held accountable for anything that happens on your accounts.

It actually wouldn't though, because you cannot prove whether someone is using someone else's PC or not :/ Let's say you're my brother, and I decide I h8 u and decide to log onto your accounts on your PC and raise hell.
It just honestly wouldn't make a difference. :/

It actually wouldn't though, because you cannot prove whether someone is using someone else's PC or not :/ Let's say you're my brother, and I decide I h8 u and decide to log onto your accounts on your PC and raise hell.
It just honestly wouldn't make a difference. :/
=[
There has to be some sort of solution to prevent innocent people from being banned. If that's the case, even staff members don't know for sure so they're basing it off what they feel happened.
Eh, I'm sure you understand where I'm coming from though, despite the fact the overall we really can't tell who is who. It's just sad seeing so many vets banned.
Okay, so I'm hoping Gravity adds a finger print auth based login or maybe an iris scan. :D

Just because you get banned does not mean you shared your account. FYI I was at a friends house for two-three weeks. Obviously not my home IP as I've been around a long time. The account was given to the guy, sooo! I also provided proof.
So yes, innocent people can get banned. It IS possible.

Laven, you were on that other IP for more than a week, logging onto a variety of your different accounts. The account was completely linked to you. That's like saying we shouldn't punish someone who goes to an internet cafe to pull a bunch of crap on someone.
