Title: What are these (M) conversations?
Post by: MysticJhn on November 27, 2011, 09:41:02 pm
I haven't played the game in a loooooong time.
Months to a year.

So these conversations that keep popping up when nobody is nearby to talk that are marked with (M) are throwing me off.

What are they?
Why can't I see the people talking?
Can they be shut off?

I don't want to hear people's rogue conversations that are totally unimportant, private conversations.
Seriously, why are people talking to one another over some kind of map wide PA system?

Main chat. A type of global chat.
@main off
I think there's a perma option if you look at @commands

When was that put in?

That seems like a very annoying feature that can only lead to people abusing it by mouthing off to an entire map.

@main permaoff to turn it off when you log back on. Main chat is suppose to be used to recruit for parties and probably find people. People have been using it to troll around and act like idiots. It was put in not too long ago. And it goes to the entire server, not just one map. Obviously if you have main chat off then you won't see anything.

Alright, thanks to everyone for the help.

I'm sure it probably had those intended uses, but from the little bit I was playing earlier it wasn't any of them.
It was like people having normal chat over a PA system.

I don't know about anyone else, but I don't imagine Payon Dungeon having anything close to a PA. :D

I actually like main chat. It's kinda interesting to chat with the "globe" when you are farming or questing alone.

Main chat WAS used to recruit, but since so many people turned it off permanently, nobody bothers trying to recruit using that.

This sounds so counter productive ):
I still use it to find people, in the hopes they're actually on/don't have main off.

It's kind of a weird way to recruit then.

I mean someone that MIGHT be interested could be halfway across the globe from you.
Then again, maybe it's just me.
I've never been one to form a party much and never played WOE.

Why would it be weird?
You make a call on the whole server and they all can answer you back immediately. Unfortunately, lots of people are "what is this blue text I can't read" and turn it off.

You make it sound like we have to walk everywhere
Then again this thread smells of troll

How did a legitimate question to into a suspect troll? o.O

Sorry if there's aspects of the game I actually don't understand.
Not everyone that gets that message would be standing right next to a teleport NPC, y'know.
And most classes can't just teleport on command to specific areas.

Ok let's think for a second about what you have said. Someone far away from warp girl.. hmm.. interesting. So exactly can you tell me how will this player go back to his city? Nobody walk back the way they have come from. They either use a BW or actually kill themselves, or at least that what common sense implies.

Who would kill themselves?

And I don't ever carry buttefly wings myself, never had a use for them.
At least I think that's what you meant by BW.
It took me a minute to even remember what a butterfly wing did.

Sorry for being a legitimate novice when it comes to most things in this game, but there's no real reason to be rude about it.
Especially when I started the topic by saying I hadn't played the game in months to a year.

Nobody was rude with you. At least we didn't call you n00by ****hole. That's being said, not playing the game for a long time isn't an excuse to go by everything.
Ignorance my friend is a sin.

It's kind of hard to play this game with never using a BW or killing yourself to go back to a spawn point. Wow that would be a lot of time wasted walking around and around. Or never go far from a warp. Kinda limits you a whole lot though. Not trying to be rude but you should probably ponder the use of BWs and other things like that to move around quickly. It's why they are there.

I usually go out adventuring until I die or want to buy things, and if I die then I end up back at the save point anyway.

Plus the system got a lot of updates since I last played, so all my decent character's skill points got reset and I don't remember what all I was using on them,
so currently I'm just wandering around as my Level 65 Novice since he had no skills to fiddle with anyway.

Usually I'm only in the first 2 Levels of Payon Dungeon with him anyway, so yeah, not too far from the save point.
Plus he has a Teleport Belt, so I can just jump around a map if I want to get back to the entrance quickly anyway.
It just doesn't go instantly to the save point like a BW or a Warp Portal.

A 65 novice hot damn you must have some mad patience. Ever though about being a super novice? Or at least a 1st job?

I already had a Super Novice long before that character was made.
There was a point when I was really into the game that I had intentions of having one of every job (except Gunslingers since I have a disdain for them).
I managed to make a majority of the non-Trans characters (never had one hit Level 99 yet, closest was Level 85 I think).

So my Level 65 Novice was just one I could wander around with when I got bored or just didn't feel like trying.
Just walk around, stab things, keep going, not even really needing to think about using skills or anything.

He's spent most his time in Payon Dungeon, so the first 30-40 Levels are gained pretty fast.
