Today, I've decided to ask the player base that doesn't do pvp a question.
Why do you not pvp?
By pvp I mean any PvP aspect of the game, be it normal PvP, WoE, or Battleground or any sort. I'd like lots of participation.
I was told ingame about: Lack of skills Lack of gear People too serious about pvp
I was told in forums about: Can't sit down and chill PvP is unrewarding and takes lots of supplies

Well, I won't hold back if it's just out of curiosity or something. I think I've mentioned it a few times on a few threads in that past that I'm only into the PvM aspect of RO.
As for the why part, I'll be honest about it. I don't wanna feel butthurt in the case that I will be on a "very long losing/death streak". Like, I have a few SQIs (4),a kaho, small set of IC gears, and a variety of PvM cards. With all that I'm set for making more zenny for more gears. But then if I take all that and play it out in WoE or PvP then 1. I'll lose tons of healing items over something I feel isn't as productive as PvM (niffing); and 2. I'll feel bad at the end of the day because of the fact that I don't take HUUUUUGE amounts of GJ or cake with me which results in my being on a long death streak.
I've entered into WoE for only a few times with Providence. Yeah, it was fun but I still recall dying more than being helpful. And I know a lotta players die and spawn back in WoE and it's all part of playing WoE. But I think to myself, WoE just isn't for me and that's how it's been for, what, all these years in aRO.
As for Battlegrounds, I had a stronger impression playing BG than of my time in WoE mainly due to the fact that I get immediate rewards just for participating. In BG, whether my team and I win or lose I'll still get medals and that's something I can hold onto. I've only played BG a few times, though.
Might as well throw it out there: I have never PvP'd.

I was fine when people potted away damage and whatnot, and I still killed them. But when people had gangs of potters there just wasn't any point to pvping.
Wars are fun, don't get me wrong. I'd join in those anytime.
But the biggest reason I don't pvp is because I just don't have time. I can get online and pvp for 10 minutes when I find a scratch of time but then you just have a bunch of idiots sitting in pvp or a champ:champ that doesn't care to stop for a change of pace.

Yeah i know its PvP, you die so dont cry. But some people are really discouraging towards weaker players who are obviously no match for them. Some people enter PvP just to have a little change from PvM, but it must get real crap when you cant even survive one FO or Spiral Pierce. Just looking through a newbie's view :'(

Well, goldmind's answer is pretty much exactly what I would've said, but I'll change a few things.
First, I haven't even tried Battlegrounds, and second, I have PvP'd in the past, like in the first year I started playing (on AnimaRO). I really only PvP'd with my friends though, just for fun. And it'd just be like, "Aw, you got me. Let's try again. =)" So really relaxed and actually fun. ...Then some random person would come up and kill us in an instant. Happened multiple times. It's like, whatever gets your dick hard, people. >:|
Plus, there's the whole gear aspect of PvP. Dispite being on this server for, what... 5 years? I'm still fairly poor. I do not make zeny very fast and I've somehow managed to get a DDPT MG, but that is the extent of my good equips (for the most part). This can be attributed to me being more of a casual RO gamer rather than a hardcore one. Just that dagger connot get me anywhere in PvP; I'll be dead in an instant. And why would dying instantly be fun? It isn't, so why bother?
Like, goldmind said, there's no reward for PvPing. And if there's one thing I hate in a video game that I love, it's spending hours or days on something, and not getting anything accomplished/having nothing to show for all the time I spent. (I'm also talking to you, Disgaea games. Especially you, Disgaea 3. >:| )
I absolutely love the PvM aspect of RO, so I'll just stick to that. Far less opportunities to rage quit.
For a shorter list... - People take it way too seriously - People tend to give obviously weaker people a hard time, going as far as attacking for no reason other than "lol noob im pro lookit me" - Gear is too expensive - It isn't rewarding - And PvM is fun enough for me to not feel like I'm missing out on not PvPing

I WoE until it gets boring, then I just sit and chill until i get ECalled. I BG almost everytime there is a BG match, then stop when everyone else does. I PvP sometimes, then stop if I am 1)Getting ganged, 2) Getting KoS'd, 3) when everyone leaves, or 4) I run out of gj, arrows, and/or pots/money for all that.

^ Yes to all of that. PvP is fun until people get all srs about it.. and being kos'd on sight is fun for awhile but it eventually gets boring..

On serious note, pvp is gang wars (who got more friends,pots,cakes,yggs,prebuffs=wins), pvp as it meant to be at start is dead, long time ago.

woe= very fun for me even though i have no equip for it at all, as long as there is teamwork its great
bg= again, teamwork and enjoyable cause both sides get reward win/loss ( fun till half the losing team rq's to loss or cause they swap sides to try and stack)
pvp= hate pvp cause its full of people yelling ikosyourmom2000 and mass potting and im better than youness /ok not got the gear for pvp anyway

I don't pvp at all or do BG very often (only if they are like..desperate for people) but i do woe.
I like woe because we work together and have a goal even if we don't always get a castle it was still fun and worth whatever i spent on it. and the idea of working together with a guild of people each time is really the best part to me. even if we don't get a castle it was still 2 hours spent doing crazy things with people who are like family ( some cake and gj but not a ton)
pvp itself just doesn't appeal to me i don't really have the gear to be competitive and don't see the point when its just "oh look i have better stuff than you so i win". there's no goal to it' so no point in wasting the time on it. I will just leave it to the crazy people who take it so seriously o.o
bg i do find fun to an extent. it just doesn't appeal to me much so i only go if they need like that last person to have enough people.

The one who behaved like that is definitely kid. Don't need to really bother with them. They just want to attract some attention by thinking their act is cool.

I'll choose to do more tactical PvP like BG or PW or even WoE in PvP, only people with best gears can compete... and that's no fun (because I have noob gears)
I don't understand the pessimistic mentality in here. You can survive vs any class fine wih basic elemental gear.
I didn't have any of the basic gear during that time so yeah :laugh:
I don't care about public or arena. I used to go to forest but no one goes there anymore, and if they do they leave the moment an alchemist goes in lol.

Yeah, I got discouraged, but I learned how to counter people. Bios and champs were tricky, bios only needed to run 1 vit, lol.

I don't like the RO pvp mechanics. I PvP in other games and MMOs. RO wasn't made for pvp (it didn't have pvp at all for the first 3 years (maybe more). too much gear swapping.. no class balance ~ I want any class to have an equal chance to beat any other class 1 on 1. Retarded items such as GTB card.
I don't like when others are overpowered and I don't like to play overpowered classes.
Some classes seem to lack offensive skills almost completely.
Would I start PvPing if these things were changed? No.. I'll pvp in other games instead!

I find myself pvming more and more. Pvp is full of pots lately. Back in the day no one potted this much, only those that wanted to solo kill.

I don't pvp cause I could care less about it.
To me, pvp is just a way to flaunt your skills, gear, and money. That and people take it too seriously.
Back when NT was popular, I would sit in forest with my guild and sometimes fight in their silly wars but I'm a rather peaceful player.
I don't play seriously to know what skills to use or what class to be or what armor to wear and frankly, I rather not.
WoE is enough for me.. although I don't WoE currently.
