Title: Chat Tabs
Post by: L'Fluffy on October 29, 2011, 05:56:19 am
This is somewhat a question/suggestion topic.

Regular chat's the primary chat box, little uses the battle logs, and god knows who creates other chat tabs.
Is there anyway we can customize our chat tabs?
What I wanted to do is to limit what chat goes where on my chat box.

Right now what we have is:
[Regular Chat | Battle Log]
where Regluar Chat consist of @main, @tc, private/party/guild, woe...etc
and Battle Log just have woe info (I think).

Since we can create more chat boxes, so I've decided to create:
[Main Chat | Regular Chat | Battle Log | Trade Chat]
But I want to limit each to:
Main Chat: @main
Regular Chat: general/private/party/guild
Battle Log: woe info
Trade Chat: @main  no @tc

Possibilities? Suggestion?

If what your asking is to make tabs for different categories like Guild, Party, Main, Trade ETC then it's already be asked and was responded by the GMs that it could not be done.

You can make tabs for pretty much anything except for @main and @tc. They use the packets of regular/guild/party chat usually, so will show up in those tabs.

Really? I looked at the suggestions section prior to making this, and didn't see any :x

Is there a particular reason why it's not possible?

That's why I wanted to have separate tabs so players can customize what they want to show in each... .-.

Well, you can make new tabs right? And by pressing the blue circle icon you can enable/disable what you want to show in each tab. Just not @main or @tc.

Well main chat and trade chat are linked to Public Log. Otherwise you can do everything else how you want.

You make the Main Tab: Public Log
Regular Chat Tab: Public Chat Display, Party Chat Display, Guild Chat Display, Whisper Display
Battle Log Tab: Display WOE Info
Trade Chat: Public Log

I think the thing with a separate section for Main and Trade Chat Displays was due to it being part of the Client, which Fidelis said they cannot customize .

The client doesn't know trade chat or main chat or monster chat. For it, it's just "MESSAGE PACKET NUMBER ... whatever ... 42". So since monster/NPC chat, main chat and trade chat all use message packet number 42, the client can't differentiate between the three, and puts them all into the same log.

Appreciate the technical brief explanation... but it seems like being able to customize chat tabs are the basics in most MMOs, thus if that option is available, it would be very convenient/helpful for newcomers.

The problem is that the client (animus.exe) is closed-source, so it can only be changed by using a hex editor, so it's really hard to add new features to it (or more or less impossible for someone like me). Unfortunately, the client only understands a handful of message packets, like 42 (for monster/npc/main/trade chat), 31 (for public chat), 189 (party chat), 576 (guild chat), etc. So there's no way we can add a new one on the client side, so main chat and trade chat have to share the message packet number with one of the existing ones, since main/trade chat are not official, thus they are not included in the client as an option.
On the server side, everything's possible, so I could give main and trade chat a new message packet number, but that doesn't help much in that case, because the client doesn't know what to do with the new numbers.

PS: The numbers 42, 31, 189, 576 do not make sense, I just made them up.

._.
and i thought you're a robot, but this proves that you're only human..... i r disappointed :(

these packages... are they related to the "Regular Chat/Window Sign Information" window? Cuz there might be some that are rarely used...(at least for me... search message for party member/party battle message display)...

I'm a badger, damnit! A honey badger!

Yeah, you could say the packages are related to the kinds of messages that you can turn on and off. Just keep in mind that, AFAIK, only the monster/npc package can be used in different colors, all other packages have fixed colors, so we're using the monster/npc package right now to color main and trade chat. Otherwise it would have the same color as party or guild chat.

I'll see if there are other packages that can be used, although I doubt it.
