Title: Changing IP addresses
Post by: Spiritual Angel on May 18, 2011, 09:50:51 am
Okay so, after hearing that when you get banned all accounts on an IP, I'm really paranoid about the fact that I've moved out from home and am now living in University accommodation so I'm using the same internet as every other student @_@ Does this now mean that, I could get banned for IP fraud cus I'm now using a different IP? (probs a really stupid question but I just want to make sure!) If anyone else at the uni happens to play RO and gets banned will my account be banned too? (if so i may stop trying to get my friends to play <.< you know... just in case)

I have many firends who live at a university and havent had any issues so far. And i vote from home and school sometimes since on certain days i'm on campus for well over 12 hours. Havent seen a problem so far :) tho if you're in a crowded area with a lot of computers, like campus cafe or something... might not wanna vote there just in case >.>

If you use the universities computers, and someone uses their pc's to commit multiple offenses, then it's possible. But it's unlikely.

I only vote from my laptop xD I havent used any of the actual uni computers for anything to do with RO ^^

i know for a fact its not illegal if you use your forum in another IP AS LONG AS your not using the SAME FORUM ACCOUNT to vote on different IP's.

I'm using the same forum account I was using at home @_@ but that wont matter will it? Seeing as I was using one IP consistently for a long time while at home and am now using this one (at uni) they would see that I wasnt constantly changing right? <.<

IP TRACKING they know what IP you use when you log onto your forum account and if your worry about using your Uni comp(diff IP)it is not illegal like i said above i know someone who constantly log in forum in a different computer and sometimes probably on phone.

You can send a support ticket and let the GMs know the situation /ok they'll be able to tell you if someone else is voting at your university - and in the case that someone vote frauds and the IP is linked to yours somehow, you can pull out that ticket to cover yourself

Thanks, I think that's worth doing just in case xD

That's cool then I shall stop worrying xD I've been at uni for 8 months now, it just only really occurred to me about the whole IP address thing

If this IP that you are posting from is the uni IP, it seems that there's no other forum account attached to it or its range. Besides, even though many others are also using the university network, you will most likely have a different IP as the other people. When I used to live in a dorm, every room had a different IP, or well, the IP changed quite a lot. @_@

really? i use forum account in office ip as well as home ip. The problem is, when u have two different forum accounts (Same person) in different ips or same ip and vote, that is fraud!
not having same forum account in various ips. As long as u r honest and not frauding, its fine. I check forum related stuff in office and vote first 12 hours duration here. next one at home. i only have one forum account and i have traded / sold so many ads and never been questioned for fraud.
:)

I can see people needing to do that if they want to keep their bonuses tho... If i didn't have my laptop with me 24/7 i'd have to (heaven forbid) use a school comp to vote on my long days. As long as you're not making ANY attpemt to vote before the 12/24/30 hour mark, i wouldn't consider that fraud.
