Valkyrja's Shield [1] is one of the most superior shields out there, hands down. The only thing that possibly competes are Stone Buckler [1] on a Swordsman, and Orlean's Server combo for cast reduction. (And Aegis Shield if we're talking SQI)
The only jobs that can't use it are anything of the Novice branch. People spend millions of zeny (or purchase with AD credits) just to get one of these. Long Horn with it for Trans Swordie jobs also makes for great self-tanking with Assumptio procs. It also benefits well from an Odin's & Frigg circlet combo. It's basically an excellent piece of gear by itself with some rather cool extension options.
Valkyrie's Armor on the other hand, feels rather substandard given alternative options. If anyone wants to say otherwise, feel free, I'd just prefer wearing an Odin's Blessing personally.
The important thing to keep in mind is that it's for Transcendents only, so it kicks away the alternate jobs of Ninja, TK Boy/Girl, Soul Linker, Star Gladiator, and Gunslinger on top of the Novice branch. Meanwhile Odin's is for everyone but Novices.
Final thing of note: The shield currently doesn't drop off Valkyrie, it drops off Randgris herself, so you'd have to be going after her regardless if you don't want to pay for one.
Good luck and hope that all helped. 8)

Valkryie armor removes the chance a bio chemist can get an easy kill on your if your not FCPed by breaking your ghostring.

Ah, very good catch, didn't notice that bit. I just saw the +1 all stats and went 'eh?'
But yes, that's a very good reason to wear Valkyrie Armor. If you're a Transcendent anyway. ;)

plus a 50% resist to silence for archer/mage/acolyte trans
50% resist to stun for swordman/theif/merchant trans

With many people running 100+vit on the WoE scene (at least from what I've been able to gather from hearsay), the silence/stun isn't going to matter for those jobs that usually do run high vit, so I didn't really think it was worth putting that part about it out there.
But yes, it's something else good about the armor. :-X

You should also see "Add a 20% resistance against Water, Fire, Shadow and Undead Property." People aren't going to be walking around with high-plussed Valk Shields unless they've been here for forever, and people don't care enough about the circlet to usually overupgrade them. The idea is mainly for the extra def and mdef to cancel out the small decrease of def that'd result in order to have a contributive MDEF set without wearing a GTB, which would complicate multi-man MVP missions and the like.
On a more serious note, people will more likely use a Kaho or something similarly powerful over the combo so the idea is rather moot anyway. Whatever they'll wear will complement the shield rather nicely, the combo's a 'poor-man's option'.
The Shield is an extremely powerful object with fringe benefits; if you don't care for them that's fine, it's a kickass thing regardless. :o
