Title: Just wondering...Bio Chemist stuff
Post by: Ar-Cherry on January 25, 2011, 05:56:10 pm
I just transed my account to high merchant. I already have one WS and the reason i transed it to high merch is because i have that WS on other account than my current high merch, so I could make it another WS and leech my other characters on my "main account" But then I realised that i just should buy leechs to get my non trans classes to trans so if I make Biochemist... I never played Bio, don't know what you need/are Bio's gear ETC. And how about that homuculus thing? Is it hard/pain in the you-know-where to train and stuff?

Thanks..

The Biochemist is a rather interesting job, since it has a host of item-utilizing talents. (Un)fortunately its big power comes in the form of a single ranged skill, Acid Demonstration.

Quote from: RateMyServer
Causes explosion for up to 10 consecutive hits. Target's weapon and armor has a chance to be destroyed (10% at max level). Deals only 50% damage to other humans.
Damage formula per hit is: (0.7 * Target's VIT * Creator's INT^2) / (Target's VIT + Creator's INT).

As you can see, INT is extremely important, the most important part of the formula, as well as the opponent's VIT. Think Occult Impaction or Ice Pick when viewing this skill, just it only cares about the target's VIT value. =)

It also has a 1 second cast/delay, so the better your cast & delay timers the faster you can spam that stuff; it can be especially deadly when used against Swordsmen and Priests if they find themselves unprotected by Pneuma.

Getting the materials together though is probably the worst hassle of any job's item needs in the game. It requires one set of an Acid Bottle and a Bottle Grenade each throw. Sounds simple enough.

Acid Bottles need 1 Empty Bottle and 1 Immortal Heart each. Not bad, Immortal Hearts drop off Verits in the different Pyramid levels, mainly the first Basement level (the one right under the Thief Guild).

Bottle Grenades need 1 Empty Bottle, an Alcohol, and a Fabric. This is the really bad one usually.

Thankfully on this server Fabrics can be gotten off of Whispers, Wraiths, and Wraith Deads fairly easily. (Ludes also drop this at a sort of decent rate, though I'm not sure if you'll find any in Skellington, but sometimes a Quve might turn into a Lude. Not something to depend on though.) You can access GH Sewers for 10k per trip from the ex-Stylist in Alberta, that should help you locate some Whispers fairly easily. They're at the first sewer level, not the Sting one, so make sure you're at the right place!

Alcohol, something you can also make, requires 1 Empty Bottle, 5 Stems, 1 Empty Test Tube, and 5 Poison Spores. Part of this is easily solved by Plant Cultivation, a skill Biochemists can use to summon plants and mushrooms. You need a Mushroom Spore to summon a Black or Red Mushroom at 50% chance, and they drop 2 Mushroom Spores and 1 Poison Spore each. They also drop Alcohol on their own as well as a bunch of other goodies, so it basically takes care of itself. Stems however cannot be effectively farmed for this purpose, so you'll have to farm them off natural plants. The Yggdrasil tree (where people usually get warped to for Nifflheim) is a good place to collect stems together, especially from Green Plants. There's a whole bunch of other goodies there too so it might be worth your while to just hunt all the Plants you can find there.

That pretty much solves how to get the materials for Acid Demo together. Now some equipment ideas:

Surely, you'll want lots of Int to make your damage count. If you can get an Instant Cast and/or Kiel build going as well, that can help too.

If you don't have an SQI, I highly recommend wearing an elemental weapon of some sort while using Acid Demo. Unless times have changed, this will make your Acid Demos bypass Neutral property Reduction cards, most notably Raydric and Deviling.

That's about all I can say about Acid Demo, just watch out for Pneuma and use your resources wisely. =)

Moving on to Homonculi, that's a very big topic that I don't think I can summarize well. It'd do you good to research this in other threads, like http://www.animusro.com/forums/index.php/topic,8968.0.html or http://irowiki.org/wiki/Homunculus_System

There's some criitical information to know about Homunculi in general, so here's some advice:

Only have your Homunculus out when you know you're going to be active at the computer. Homunculi are basically extensions of the Cute Pet system so they need to be fed regularly. Try to feed them between 11% and 25% hunger whenever possible.

You get Base exp if your homunculus kills something by themselves, but no job exp. You both get a 25% exp boost if you two fight together though. Depending on the Homonculus you get, your methods of leveling might be different.

The most important part to getting started though: Homonculus embryos cost about 60k each attempt, make sure you have a good success rate before trying to make them. Also, the Homunculus you get will be randomly chosen out of 8 (4 unique kinds, each with an alternate sprite).

Best of luck. 8)

You should turn into Biochemist! :) and i am sure you will have lots of fun...making potions and traning with your homunculus.
You will see how powerful and interesting Bio can be.
Alchemist was my second character i ever made, and till now, im enjoing the most.
There is many things i have never tried though, like making AD sets or some potions.
My homunculus it`s a filir, first try (only because i didn`t had more zeny to buy more embryos) but i love that bird. Most of people are recomending Vanilmithr ^_^
I was traning with him around 8 months. At first Payon Dungeon and metalings in Einbroch field, then Orc Dungeon with Potion Picher support. Next was Toy Factory second floor, and i spent really long time there, which was great- i could sold all cakes i`ve got and repair my budget haha
I spent many time leveling my filir and myself in Niff, untill i become Biochemist. My filir was dyieing a lot in there.
But from loot i sold, i bought all books i was needed and a Philosopher Stone (Stone of Sage) - 3 mil Zeny D:
Dont worry i saw that stone for 500k lil time ago in Prontera :P If homunculus intimacy is Loyal, you need it to envolve it- Homunculus will grooooww ^_^
I made him 99 in High Orcs.
Alchemist ->Biochemist is one of those character, that can`t be boring :)

As for gears: U need everything that gives you dex. I am using Kaho, sting gloves, +10 4 x drops knife and Kiel mid headgears instantly.
Armor, Shoes and garmet - depending on your needs

Wall of text
You can buy all the ingredients for Alcohol, Acid Bottles and Grenades from the Alchemist NPC.

Bio gear is similar to other instant cast chars so you'll need dex.

Kaho
Sting Gloves/Bris/Orleans
Quad drops mace/dagger. Or if you have the funds, get a Djinn which will allow you a more various builds for gear/stats since it gives 40 dex.
Gargoyle footgear/Stem stem garment (which help when you can't achieve 150 dex for IC)

Homunculus:
Feeding homun gives you points. 11-24 hunger gives +1 point towards intimacy. You still get intimacy if you feed them up to 74, but less is given. I usually fed to 74 so that I can afk for longer periods of time.

When you first start training a homun, go to geffen tower to kill spores. Once it gets high enough, experiment places where you can go. I personally (as long as with many other trainers) went to Orc Dungeon lvl 1 then lvl 2.

Eh, I wanted to be helpful, thanks for the actual assistance otherwise though. =x

I wasn't aware the stuff could simply be bought from the Alchemist NPC, thanks for the info @.@ *feels silly for not knowing now* :-[

And yeah, these guys can give a better idea of what exactly to equip with, I'm still rather nub on the server so I just speak with general gaming knowledge.

Take care. :)

aaah Kibou you helped a lot and you posted very helpful links (are in my bookmarks now^^)
It seems, like you know a lot about potion making, its still black magic for me ><

I actually like Kibou's effort. He actually states stuff the way it is in Iro or the official servers. And not just which npc to get it from (which is not bad too). Haha, we're so spoon-fed sometimes.

But the fact that he actually took the time and effort to explain all that stuff to help someone makes me respect him more. Good job buddy. If no one else says it, I will, I appreciate your effort.  ;)

=) Thanks for that, both of ye.

Thanks for the progression ideas for homunculi Galy & AnnOrz. It'll be most helpful when I actually get my own started up sometime in the year 2048 lol

Yeah ratsparxx, I try. xD It was a lot to write and simplify. Had I known the Alchemist NPC could sell that stuff (I glanced over it once but didn't notice certain things so I assumed it was just a convenient material shop. I got my own alcohol for the alchemist test farming the darn thing over at the goblin camp /heh) I would have mentioned it as well. Biochemist isn't really something to just go and say 'hey you do this and own' like what a Lord Knight or Wizard can do, at least most places.

And Galy, may I say indeed, "Cool story sis". xD

Homunuclus are harder to train now because you have to keep your homun from KSing, so the only places you should really train your homun is KS-able places.

There is a program called MirAI that is a bot program for homuculi. It kept homunculi from KSing and had auto-spells like Potion Pitch or Coldbolt/Firebolt if you had Ice Falchion or Fire Blend to help maintain mobs. I don't think it works on our server anymore though. :(

Thank you I am ever so grateful about all the comments. Yes Bio seems very interesting I think I'll go for that! And now as I got my two OTHER non trans to 99 I can definatly get my HW to the account I want! And still can decide what else I get on that ^^ Maybe it be Bio? =o

The AI still works on the server when it comes to preventing KSing. Auto-pitching and auto-attack is being taken out of the system already.

I want to inform you that when it comes to training homun... If you want to lvl fast, do not use AFK training... Try to have fireblend or ice falchion with you. Cast a fire bolt or cold bolt on the monster one time and leave the rest of the killing to your homun. I can easily lv my homun till lv38 - 40 in 3 hours without AFK training...

If you have devi muff and tirfing shield I would reccomend you train your homun from lv1 - 6 at poring island, then at lv6 - 22 at payon dungeon. After that you can train at toy factory till you think you are ready to go to niff or prison. At the start of your toy factory. Tank your homun with your bio. Beware of the spear stab that push you away and then when you homun hit the mystcase they will change target. Of course, a RSX armor can help with that but that is not necessary. :) Avoid letting your homun kill crusiers... Make sure to bring some orange pot there... Bout 100 should be good :)

MirAI was very nice back in the day, I had my own reasons for liking it personally. Shame it hasn't been updated in like 5 years though. But hey, it's still functional, that's what matters.
