Title: Need GM assistance
Post by: betheldt on January 17, 2011, 08:48:20 pm
I'm posting this in Feedback because my feedback on the server is that it doesn't work on my computer.
I seriously need help, as I'm almost possitive that the problem spawns from my computer running on Windows 7. I've tried on 3 computers, 2 of which had W7, one had WXP. The XP computer worked, the 7's did not.
I've been attempting the installation for about 2 weeks, deleting and redownloading the file again and again.
Attempting to access the downloaded file causes extreme lag, and often freezes my computer.
Could a GM or forum manager or whoever can help me please do so? Many thanks.

Please don't post unless you can (at least try to) help.

You know, saying that would've helped. I could assumed you joined minutes before and didn't read the announcement.

Hon you shouldn't make more than one thread about the same thing D: if you're really stuck, make a support ticket. Right now GMs will have their hands full with the maintenance, so they likely wont even see this. Rely on the community a bit more, and wait for someone to respond to your first thread with more helpful info :<
(also providing more detail about your situation would really help others help you).
Warning - while you were typing a new reply has been posted. You may wish to review your post.

You're also right, and please make note that I am extremely new to the server and forums. I thought that feedback would be a better place to locate the thread...
How does one make a support ticket?

Don't worry about it :D If you need anything feel free to PM me, I may not know about computer issues but I've been here long enough to at least be able to direct you to people/places where you can solve your problems.
And hit the modify button instead of double posting next time :P

Do you have an antivirus that's scanning files on access? It might be trying to check the installer before actually letting it run. Since the installer's file is rather large, it might be choking on all that data it has to scan through.
Also, make sure you run the installer as admin (it's in the right-click options) and/or maybe try turning UAC (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/disable-user-account-control-uac-the-easy-way-on-windows-vista/)off (even though that shouldn't be an issue).
Alternatively, if you have a flash drive, just copy the RO folder from your XP computer to your Win7 computers. You'll have to make your own shortcuts, but other than that, everything should be the same as if you ran the installer.

Hmm you could try running the installer in Windows XP SP 3 Compatibility mode by right clicking it and going to its properties.
