Title: What do you think is the best char to start off in a low rate server?

As the question states. You know what to do guys. If able, explain why / cons & pros / etc....  :)

Swordsman, because Crusader is the easiest class to solo+get to 99 with little to no gears.

The only vital gear is Angeling card armor, but since the Halloween event, you can find them on the market easily for 2-3m zeny. Heck, I still have 3 in my Kafra right now.

Mobbing - Peco. Endure. Grand Cross.
General PvM - High HP modifier, +2000 HP from a skill, extra damage to Undead/Demon monsters

Now THAT's what I'm looking for. Short, detailed and professional  ;)

Cuz I'm new to low-rates (besides laggy-as-hell IRO) and trying to make it to 99/70 without any help and funding  :-\

i started out from scratch as a bard with a priest friend!.. it was a bit tough

yeah crusader is a good idea, you just gotta sleep your monsters and do GC and you have your own heal

and dontworry about linmakana

While crusader is a good one...

You can also start off fairly easily with a magician class and work your way to either wizard/sage.

Ice Dungeon floor one works really well since Siromas give decent experience for their HP modifier (and they're not aggressive), and
they can clump up for some thunderstorm AoE damage.  I got my first character---a sage---to 95 there.

Plus going to sage = you can move while casting (Free Cast + Cast Cancel skills) so IC gears aren't a must.

That and it's far more deserted map-wise than the typically popular crusader leveling spots (Niff, Prison, Churchyard, Vally of Gyoll).

Priest and wizard are both really breezy for levels up to ~90.
Then if you haven't got a friend to borrow gears from, or your own money, you're going to cringe your cast time.

I started as an acolyte. Still, I made my 99 priest way before making anything close to decent sum of zeny, so those last levels really took forever. And then I looked like a loser being a high priest with just a sting glove... T^T

When I started I made a thief and turned into sin.
Is easy to kill small mobs if you go flee build and you can kill fairly large mobs in prison with just a fire katar and grimtooth. Go str + vit and you should do fine with that.

You could also go rogue instead of sin if you choose thief. They're also pretty good, but they're better at making money then lvling unless you have gears. THe don't mob very well unless you use SG.
One of the best places for them to make money with no gears is toy factory floor 2. Kill the myst cases and get cakes, autosteal also allows you to get an extra cake from each monster. Cakes sell for like 3.5-3.8k each so is good money. Best way to go for them is flee/str and make sure you have enough dex to hit them most the time.

Start with a thief class, make some money by stealing from monsters with good drops, switch over to Hunter when you have some basic gear.

I'd say Hunter is one of the best classes with minimal gear emphasis.

Anything can work though, as long as you're smart.

yeahh my friend who started this game clean transed his first archer in the map before niff with traps and blahblahblah but that's money.. and with the arrows

Swordsman
As a knight you can mob monsters and kill them with nice burst skills.  This will help you level quickly and you will gain money from the loot you pick up.  You can use swords and spears quite effectively, and for starters, having two-handed quicken with a sword is always fun.  Cons?  None really, you can be effective with NPC gears.  Also, elemental weapons which are wildly helpful are offered quite cheaply on this server; with some work you can purchase them and become that much more effective in PvM and more.

Crusaders are most people's choice picks.  I get why, they can be fairly effective, but I still believe knights are the best option.  With knights you can explore just about any map besides the party-required maps like upper level of Thanatos, and dungeons where monsters hit beginning-geared players too hard to survive like Light Halzen Biolabs Lv 3 and Thors dungeon.
Crusaders are mostly limited to maps where they can hit higher damage with grand cross.  At higher levels they can do heavy damage and earn money in good undead/demon/shadow maps.

Hunter is the easiest leveling.You don't need any gear to leveling just:
A bow with 2 kaho card[20% to earth and 2 more card[20% to plant=I forgot the card name] or Burning Bow[1] or Rudra or Ballista
Leveling at outside Ice dungeon from level 20-70 with fire arrow[buyable at Treasure Island/Sunken Ship.
Put all stat to Dex and no need healing pot or maybe just few for emergency and some flywing to avoid from wolf and gryphon.
If wanna fast leveled play Double Strafe and some GJs.

Hunter on Mavkas was how I got started (obviously not right away, I had to kill some other stuff first).

Good EXP and money.

I got my first trans (My paladin) through a knight just got a brionac (dont know how the hell i managed that) but yea got to 99 in niff xD didnt have any mvp gear or nothing not even a raydric ;3
