Title: Gears with durability.
Post by: Razer on September 29, 2010, 06:10:12 am
Like in Diablo 2.

Is it possible to have implement some sort of counter that slowly reduces from a set value the longer a gear is worn? At 0 the gear gets unequipped and becomes unusable.

If this is possible -we could have gears specially for new players or event weapons with Durability or allowing players a limited use time for it. We can also choose to have a NPC repair durability for varying costs. I think I havent found a similar system on other RO servers - at the most they have time based equips like Fenrirs Boots or gears that can be worn till certain levels.

I think talis was working on something similar or I might've read it somewhere or whatever but not exactly items decreasing in durability but items that you could rent or something and they'd go away after a certain specified time. That seems like the easier solution to me.

Its an easier solution but lets say you bought a week long item and then for some reason you cannot come on for 4 days. You will be sad and perhaps not buy the said item again or avoid buying it.
Seeing how pet hunger has a time based counter which only works when player is online - I feel the system is doable.

Also Schro made the test Fenrir Boots which would last a day so the system is already out. Rental items work the same way too.

i was wondering when to bring up this suggestion, but i wasnt sure it would affect my weapons / armors
since they are like way more costlier and i worked my a** off to get them !!

but i agree with this one

Well instead of it being a set amount of time, it could probably be set amount of PLAYING time. Although.... If its playing time, then it should be considerably less than real time, imo.

my fenrir boots testing was a rental item.  It counted down no matter if they were on or not.

I am aware. What I ask - is it possible to have an item that only counts down when worn.
Surely , you may have seen this system is somewhere. Maybe Diablo 2 ?

I'm aware of what you meant, and it might be possible, I haven't really looked into it at all, I know there are some items that exist already that countdown when you use them, and if you double click again, they stop working and the countdown stops.  I don't especially feel like we need durability items in the server though.

Would make nice custom event weapons - prompting users to keep re - making them when they expire. Could also be provided to new players.

By the same token, events could give boxes, that give a rental item, so that players could save said item until they wanted to use it.

Id like it, but people are already lazy enough. Making things have timers to which they have to keep an eye on, i.e. Use their brain would be shotdown.
